This cross was planted by Ferdinand Magellan on 17th of March, 1521 when he baptized the first christian Filipinos, King Humabon and Queen Juana of Cebu. This is also to signify the propagation of the Roman Catholicism in the Philippines. The original cross is covered with another wooden cross for protection, as people were chipping it away in the belief that it had miraculous healing powers. This is located just beside the Santo Nino Church.
