“The Church of a Hundred Doors” in Parikia dates to the 4th century and is said to have been founded by St Helen, the mother of Constantine when she stopped on the island during a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It is one of Greece’s outstanding early-Christian monuments, with architecture mostly from the 6th century during the rule of Justinian after the first church was damaged by fire.

Church of a Hundred Doors - an excellent monument Great ancient, 6th century Church, still operating today. Filled with wonderful inspirational artwork. A great way to spend a quiet afternoon out of the strong sun.

This monastery is celebrated on the 15th August (The Dormition or Assumption of the Virgin Mary) and the whole of Parikia celebrates this. There are fireworks in the evening in the town. The monastery Panagia Ekatontapyliani (The Church of 100 doors) is a historic Byzantine church near the port of Parikia. The church dates to 326 AD.
