Sami is the island's main port and is located on the east coast of the island, about 24 kilometers east from Argostoli, served by regular ferries to and from Patras on the Greek mainland. Sami offers an enchanting waterfront and a wonderful collection of shops, restaurants, unique Venetian buildings, and cafes. The town also offers a historic view of the island evidenced by the remains of ancient structures such as the nearby Acropolis of Sami. Sami Acropolis is located in the Lapitha Mountains in Sami. It is an archaeological site and the ruins date back to 3rd century BC. One can observe the ruins of the ancient town including the public buildings, structures and more. The view of the sunset from the cliff is gorgeous. It also offers spectacular views of the island and the sea.
