Dante Alighieri tomb in Ravenna. Ravenna, in it's history, has been capital three times: of the Western Roman Empire (402-476), of the Kingdom of the Ostrogoths (493-553) and of the Byzantine Exarchate (568-751). For the vestiges of this luminous past, the complex of the first Christian monuments of Ravenna is included, since 1996, in the list of Italian heritage sites by UNESCO, as a serial site "Early Christian monuments of Ravenna". In addition to Dante's tomb you can find many famous and unique churches (San Francesco, Sant'Appollinare and San Vitale) and the mausoleum of Galla Placidia and the mausoleum of Teodorico.

If you want to see where Dante is buried, this is it. Behind it, through gates, is the tumulus where his remains were removed for safe-keeping during the war. You will see the iconic relief of Dante.
