A historic place where Gorizia and Nova Gorica meet. An old train station, but still active. An old train is exposed outside and you can see it for free. You can have a coffe at the bar and enjoy the piazza or hop on a train and go somewhere :)

The State Border in the Goriška Region 1945-2004 exhibition was opened in 2005 and is housed in Nova Gorica’s oldest public building - its Railway Station. The exhibition uses photographs, uniforms, flags, maps and documents, to tell the stories of the fates of those who were affected by the state border erected after WWII between the FLRJ (Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia), of which Slovenia was then part, and the Republic of Italy in the area between Mt Sabotin and the town of Miren. The exhibition details the cultural shock experienced when the border cut through the lives of people, separating both families and friends overnight. Upon Slovenia's joining the European Union, the border dividing the twin cities of Gorizia and Nova Gorica was removed. The two towns also jointly constructed a square in front of the railway station. At its centre is a large circular mosaic connecting the two cities entitled “A mosaic of a new Europe”

want to be in two countries at the same time? Europe square (Piazza Transalpina) is a square crosses at the very middle by the border between Italy and Slovenia. Easiest access is by train and by car.
