Take a stroll around the quarry (4 km). Limhamns kalkbrott (Limhamn limestone quarry) or Kalkbrottet (the limestone quarry) was opened in 1866, and it is one of the largest open-pit mines in Northern Europe, measuring 1300 by 800 meters, with a depth of 65 meters. The industries were torn down for housing developments in the 2010s. The open pit is a municipal nature reserve since 2011, notable for one of very few populations of the European green toad remaining in Sweden.

Limhamns kalkbrott (Limhamn limestone quarry) or Kalkbrottet (the limestone quarry) is situated near Malmö, in the Borough of Limhamn-Bunkeflo, Malmö Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden. The quarry was opened in 1866, and it is one of the largest open-pit mines in Northern Europe, measuring 1300 by 800 meters, with a depth of 65 meters. A railway line connects the quarry to the cement factory in Limhamn port, with about two kilometers of the railway connection going in a tunnel (opened in 1968) to reduce air pollution. Mining of limestone in the quarry ceased in 1994.

Nature reserve and limestone quarry (1866-1994). Small animals, reptiles, birds, plants. Nice walkway around the quarry. Open to public. The name of the district around it, Limhamn, means limestone harbour. Take city bus nr 34 in direction of Sibbarps camping, to "Limhamns centrum", and from there bus nr 33, direction Värnhem, get off at "Kalkbrottet". Walk across the street for a good viewpoint. Travel time: ca 40 minutes.
