Houston, we have a problem. Seriously, NASA is awesome. It's a 2+ hour drive round trip. But, I think it's the best tourist site in Houston. If you book ahead of time, you can pay extra to go on the NASA special tour. Dine with astronauts.. visit sites off limits to the public. Get driven around in a golf cart by a NASA historian. Trust me when I say, the special tour is the best money you'll spend on tourism in Houston.

This is a must do if you're looking for a day trip. Located in Clear Lake, TX (approximately 45 min from the home), you'll get to see a retired space shuttle, walk through the mission control, and much more.
