Massive beach, panoramic views of the sea, beach and mountains. You can walk for hours! Great spot for kite flying and sunsets. Also where the Lewis Chessmen were discovered.

Uig is an area in the south west of Lewis. There are many beautiful beaches to visit which rival the ones on Harris. Best to allow at least a day to visit them all.

Hebridean Northern Lights View is located on a clifftop at the most north westerly point in Britain, with breathtaking views of the Atlantic ocean. On a clear day you can see the Flannan Isles, 32km away, and (if you’re lucky) whales swimming; on a very clear day you can see St Kilda. On a clear winter night it is one of the darkest places in the country, with spectacular views of the Orion Nebula, the Milky Way and Great Andromeda. The local area – a former RAF radar station – is now run by Gallan Head Community Trust as a bird sanctuary and site for public art and tourism initiatives. Eagles can frequently be spotted overhead. Take a short walk up the hill and you will find The Edge Cafe, one of the best cafes on Lewis - Fiona is a fantastic cook and will give you a warm welcome. Continue to the top of the hill and you will find an extraordinary landscape with a loch and a series of striking concrete structures left over from the old RAF base, as well as new additions created by local residents. Look out for our bird murals, Lewis chessman statues and a hidden labyrinth. A short walk down the hill is a dramatic stony beach, easily accessible via a new path built by the community last year, leading to a picnic bench by the shore. A short walk up the hill to Gallan Head is an incredible series of cliff walks and viewpoints to sea (next stop, Iceland!) and the standing remains of the WWII radar installations which have been repurposed by the Gallan Head Community Trust and were painted last year by visiting French graffitti artists working with the local young people.
