Why locals recommend it

This subterranean bar is located where Hearst used to print their newspaper—it’s where the San Francisco Chronicle used to have its printing press—so there are typewriter fonts all over the walls and it has an old newsstand type of feel. In terms of aesthetic and decor, it’s one of the best places to wind up. It’s in the downtown area, so Saturdays and Sundays are the best time to go. After work it’s always packed. The area opposite the bar is the best place to get a seat and see the band.

We're journalists. This is a news-themed bar on Market. Great to stop in after sightseeing around Union Square.
