For a slice of local culture: Thursday nights from 7- 8:30 pm, go to the little green church, Keolahou Congregational at 177 S. Kihei Road near the Kihei Canoe Club. It’s ukulele and Hawaiian singing and hula night. I’m still happy trying to sing. Provided sheet music allows you to sing Hawaiian chants and songs. The amp for the good players and singers is loud enough to cover what we novices are doing. Often locals will get up and dance hulas. A small donation and/or food pantry donations are requested. If you want to rent a ukulele (or during high season if you want a seat), go early. It’s a really fun evening. On Sundays at 1 pm, you can get hula lessons there too. These are really joyful events.
