Why locals recommend it

It’s worth the trip to the Hamptons just to visit Flavin’s workshop in a renovated 1908 firehouse that was also once a black church. Check out the rotating exhibitions and the first-floor workshop, then head upstairs, where stained glass windows combine the sacred with the historic, and you’ll find several of Flavin’s signature fluorescent light pieces. It’s open year-round on weekends, but from May to October, when the Hamptons crowds are at full force, you can also visit on Thursdays and Fridays.
