Unique Gem at Sapphire Beach 1 BR 2 BA

SarahRating, 5 stars4 months ago
Amy’s place was clean and comfortable. The pullout couch was a full size for our friend who stayed 4 nights out of our 8 night trip. It was a little short in length and would be fine for children, but not for anyone tall. The air mattress in the closet was only a twin so she opted for the pullout. We have stayed at sapphire for the last 4 years. It was nice to have the two level condo this year and especially nice to have laundry in the unit. The assistant Staisha was very communicative and had quick response times for the few questions we had. Would definitely stay again!

Sapphire Beach Stunning Beachfront Condo 7

EmilyRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Sapphire resort is where it is at! The condo was charming with all of the island vibe wood work and the kitchen was new! We had a double deck unit and the family enjoyed having our own spaces to retreat to. We only had a short stroll on beautifully landscaped paths to a choice of pool, bar, beach, boutique, cafe, or restaurant! Also- taxi services are on site 24/7. Would definitely stay here again.

One Particular Harbor - Marina, Walk to Beach

AnneRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
The condo was exactly as pictured and described. On top of that, it was well stocked with kitchen items and basics, beach chairs (you can get free ones from the attendant on Sapphire) to take to all the beaches, floats, snorkels, beach towels, lanterns for power outages, paper towels, laundry detergent and dryer sheets, body wash…..My kids didn’t complain about the pull out couch, sometimes they can be iffy, but all good! Our bed was super comfortable. Pillows are firm. The view of the marina was wonderful. They are doing a bit of construction on the building next to it, which made it loud on the balconies, but the inside was absolutely 100% quiet!! We never heard our neighbors or the roosters from inside. It’s easy to grab food at Sapphire and get cabs. Plenty of parking if you rent a car. We will be back for sure.

Beachfront Villa #2

ZoëRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We loved our stay here. We were traveling with two young kids (1 yo a 3 yo) as well as my parents. We both went out to eat and cooked quite a bit for ourselves and it was great that the kitchen was well stocked with necessary utensils, pots/pans, dishes, etc. The grounds are gorgeous, we felt very safe, and we loved have both the pool option and the beach so close. Host was very responsive and helpful throughout our stay.

Lambert Beach Oasis, Beachfront, Resort Amenities

JessicaRating, 5 stars4 weeks ago
We’ve stayed in airbnbs around the world and this has been the best experience. Two ocean front balconies, a kitchen stocked with tons of supplies/spices, , great AC, etc., with terrific resort amenities. The perfect vacation. You definitely need to rent a car to get there. Cabs are hard to come by and very expensive. The roads are insane and steep, but we went with a Suzuki Jimny (like a Jeep Wrangler) and got the hang of driving within a few days. There’s a surf location nearby at Josiah Bay, too. You’ll be twenty minutes to anything you’ll need. Stock up on groceries before you check in because the resort restaurant is overpriced and the service isn’t great. The people are great. All in all, best vacation. We’ll be back!

Large Cosy Beach Front Getaway In Cane Garden Bay

KimberlyRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
My best friend and I came for our 1st visit to Tortola, and we love Elms and Cane Garden Bay! We stayed in the Star Apple Suite, and it was perfect for us! Plenty of room, clean, and amazing balcony with wonderful views! Elvet was kind and helpful, and the live music a couple nights a week and the ribs were amazing! We loved many restaurants in CGB, and it never felt overcrowded to us. We will absolutely be back, and definitely stay at Elm Beach Suites!!

Great spot only minutes from Cruz Bay. There’s a single parking spot that takes a little work to fit into but it’s sufficient. Good house for our family of 4 (2 teens). GREAT views from the back deck for morning coffee and evening cocktails. Would suggest darker curtains in the bedrooms as the current ones don’t keep out any light. Bed linens could be upgraded. Host was very responsive and easy to contact.

PARADISEA-3 BEDROOM WITH PRIVATE POOL

MadonnaRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Fantastic hosts! We were delayed with flights, which got us to St. John later than planned, but Vanessa and Larry met us at a specified spot on the map and led us the rest of the way, which was great because A. It was dark out, and B. The final 1/2 mile to their place was a hoot! They took the time to show us everything, and offer some ideas for activities. Most well-supplied Airbnb I've been in. Anything you need for cooking or grilling is at hand. Extra beach towels was sweet. The outdoor showers made cleaning up after beach time fun and easy! The views, both daytime and night, are gorgeous. Comfy beds, lots of fans to move air, and a cute island vibe decor made it so cozy. Lots of books with info on local flora, fauna and history. Comprehensive binder with restaurants and menus.

We really enjoyed our stay at Peter's guest house. The view from the deck was amazing - including fantastic landscaping, the pool was perfect, and all the amenities were great. Peter was very responsive and kind and helped us a lot with feedback and suggestions regarding things to do. Please do as the other reviews suggest and insist on an all wheel drive 2 door car such as a Jeep in order to get around and make it up and down the driveway.

This was such a wonderful place to stay on St. Thomas! It is secluded and private, has a beautiful and peaceful wrap-around porch, and suited all of our needs while staying on St. Thomas. The outdoor shower was just lovely, and I looked forward to it everyday being out and about exploring and hitting all the beaches. It is an excellent home base if you are looking to explore the island with a vehicle. Mark was communicative throughout, from booking to check-in and during our stay. He offered to pick us up from the airport when the wait for our rental car was excessive, to give you an idea of how helpful he is. Such a kind and genuine soul. He dug out the shop-vac so we could vacuum our rental before returning it. On our first day there, he took us to a parking spot down near the coast and then on a great jungle hike to get to an incredible secluded beach called Neltjeberg! Do not miss this for anything! You won't want to leave. Can't wait to come back for another visit. Book it now.

Great view! very spacious! We enjoyed our stay & would come back again. It can be a little difficult to locate even with instructions, but once located no additional issues getting into the house. You should definitely rent an SUV or Jeep to get around the island and to get up the driveway at the property. Host was very accommodating as we arrived earlier than expected. The local co-host (Donovan) provided some local food options & less busy beach options.

Million Dollar Panoramic Views!Huge Decks & Pool!

MikeRating, 5 stars5 months ago
This is the second time we have stayed in Coral Bay. Although I thought the last place was great this one far surpassed the other. Perfect place to bring our 80 year old Father, and also our 30 year old son and his new wife. We all had our perfect place. Sounds like we were very lucky with the weather, and can not complain about a thing.

Casa Mandahl West

MichaelRating, 5 stars40 months ago
Property is well off the main road with adequate off-street parking and felt safe and private. Not within walking distance of any attractions, not a problem with a rental car. Spacious accommodations, clean, cheery, and modern. Bedrooms are large with lots of storage space. bathrooms were modern but there was no hot water during our stay except for one day (we received a partial refund for the inconvenience.) Free washer, dryer and ice machine. Lots of entertainment area for sitting and dining. GREAT patio with ample seating and shade. Kitchen has adequate space but could use a few minor items ( set of wine glasses, full-sized coffee cups, sharp knives.) Host was accommodating and responded quickly to our inquiries. We were satisfied with what was expected upon reading the rental description.

James and Tara are the best Hosts!!! Very responsive and extremely upbeat humans. We appreciate the ride to cruz bay as well! The airbnb was private and super clean. The view is incredible and the sounds of the roosters and donkeys added great ambiance Absolutely perfectly appointed. There's everything you need in the kitchen (and more) plus water/beach accessories (chairs, coolers, ice packs). The safe plus the washer and dryer were an unexpected bonus. Although the area is super safe, we loved that the community was gated for extra privacy. We loved our stay and hope to book longer than 5 days next year. Thank you James and Tara!

Waterfront Cottage with private beach!

LoriRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Everything about this cottage is perfect! The hosts, location, VIEWS, decor, comfort, cleanliness, stocked kitchen and lots of extras! We highly recommend staying here if you are looking for accommodations in Coral Bay. We spent a week in Coral Bay and were able to see most of the island from the cottage. You definitely need a car (we rented a jeep on St Thomas and took the car ferry over). We enjoyed a lot of hiking, snorkeling and hanging out at beaches. Just driving around you see breathtaking views everywhere you turn! We always returned to the house by dark (the roads are tricky in the dark). We loved sitting on the deck overlooking the bay at night, playing games (that are provided), listening to music and stargazing. The kayaks and the private beach were great too! We didn’t get to meet Fernando, but it was a pleasure chatting with Dorothy. Very quick responses to any questions and eager to make sure we had a great trip. Which we did!! We’d love to stay here again!!

Romantic Getaway in the Treetops: The Bodhi House

StaceyRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We loved our stay at Bodhi! The view of Coral Bay and even over to Norman Island and Peter Island was stunning. We spent so much time on the porch just staring at that vista and watching the stars at night. The outdoor shower was lovely. Directions to get to the property were clear, and we had no trouble finding it in the dark. The location was superb — just minutes from Maho & Francis, easy 10 minute jaunt down to Coral Bay, and 20-25 drive down Centerline to Cruz Bay. Plenty of room in bathroom closet area for hanging clothes and drawers under the bed in addition to the nightstands. There is a small ice maker that helped supplement our supply. We would definitely consider staying here again on future trips to St. John.

MargaretRating, 5 stars3 days ago
My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon/anniversary trip and it was perfect! So peaceful and calm after busy days of swimming, snorkeling, hiking, and eating/drinking. The place is exactly as described. The pool was a perfect temperature, surrounded by beautiful gardens, and shaded in the late afternoon, great for a dip after an adventure. Hannah and Lorraine had great thorough recommendations and were very helpful and communicative! The bed is comfy and the air conditioning in the bedroom is powerful. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals while we were there and the beach supplies and cooler provided were so helpful! We loved the island, the nature, and our stay- thank you again for a wonderful time!

Cruz Bay Coastal Cottage. Fresh, Private.

JoRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
We stayed for a week in this beautiful place. Margaret was responsive if we needed her. The villa was very centrally located with everything (groceries, restaurants, taxi stand) within walking distance. We used the steep hill every time, and it was fine for us. The place was cozy and the bed was very comfortable. It had everything we needed for the two of us. The kitchen was well-stocked with a coffee maker, dishes, spices, and condiments; we did a lot of our own cooking. We used the provided beach towels and soft cooler for our day trips. There were chairs, toys, and floaties, which we did not need. We will hopefully be back here soon! We have no complaints or suggestions. Thank you Margaret for letting us stay in your place.

Island Breeze Cottage

AmyRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
This is one of the best Airbnbs I've ever stayed in. The location is conveniently located to many of the best beaches on St. Thomas (about a 20 minute drive from all of the beaches that we went to). The view from the house is stunning - you can see the ocean sitting at the kitchen table or on the porch. We really enjoyed opening the the doors (with screens) in the evenings to let the Caribbean air flow through. The house is also very thoughtfully put together, and includes access to everything you need for your beach days (beach chairs, towels, and a cooler). We also had all the kitchen gear we needed to cook a few meals. The pool is nice for a refreshing dip after a relaxing day at the beach. We found the bed comfortable and I slept very well after long days of sun and snorkeling! Mirian was very responsive and helpful, even getting us a couple of items that we forgot on our grocery run. We hope to be back to St. Thomas some day and we will definitely stay here again if we do!

Your guide to Saint John

Introduction

Saint John may be the smallest of the three main U.S. Virgin islands, but it’s also the one that offers visitors a true sense of escape. Most of the vacation rentals and restaurants are concentrated around Cruz Bay on the western shore and Coral Bay on the east. A national park covers three-fifths of the remaining land, making it easy to get away from the crowds and occasional cruise-ship daytrippers as you hike or snorkel at Virgin Islands National Park. Miles of trails wend up St. John’s forested ridges, leading to views that don’t include high-rise developments. And, of course, the island is ringed with white, soft-sand beaches, where you can spend the day lolling in the sun, occasionally dipping into the pristine waters of the Caribbean.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Saint John

There's a reason St. John is a popular tourist destination in winter — when the temperatures are in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit from December through March, mainland Americans can pretend snow doesn’t exist. The heat begins a slow climb in April through June, the driest time of year. Tropical showers begin in July, so you’ll want to pack an umbrella along with sunblock free of reef-damaging chemicals. Autumn through October is peak rainy season as well as the hottest time of year, with temperatures in the 80s Fahrenheit and up. Those months are also peak hurricane season — although hurricanes are rare, consider purchasing travel insurance just in case.

Top things to do in Saint John

Snorkeling in Trunk Bay

This bay, part of the national park, is the best spot for first-time snorkelers. It’s easy to get to by car or taxi, for one. Not only do lifeguards keep watch, there’s a 300-foot trail with underwater plaques identifying some of the corals and underwater fauna you’ll see in the clear blue waters.

Island hopping

Many people who come to St. John don’t stay there the whole time. From Cruz Bay, ferries and boat tours can take you to the more populous St. Thomas, St. Croix, or Tortola. You could also hire a private charter to bring you to Virgin Gorda to swim at the Baths, or to Jost Van Dyke to hang out at the famous Soggy Dollar Bar.

Virgin Islands National Park

Many scenic trails wind their way through this park, bringing you to gorgeous spots that won’t be covered in beach umbrellas. Snorkelers can strap their equipment to their back and head down the 1.6-mile Brown Bay Trail to a secluded cove with shallow, calm waters. For more seasoned hikers, the 4-mile out-and-back Reef Bay Trail, includes a steep ascent, but it brings you to the site of ancient petroglyphs as well as the shores of Reef Bay.
