Our journey began with a short drive from Taketa. The guest house is located in an idyllic countryside location alongside a river. The area felt peaceful and enchanted. Taiji welcomed us with a quick tour of the house, which is rich with history and character. The kaiseki dinner was the highlight of our stay. Every dish was impeccably presented, made with quality ingredients, and tasted like no other! It is as if we were instantly teleported from a rustic countryside cafe to an upscale restaurant! Our breakfast was equally impressive. Adjacent to the house, there was a hut with a traditional wooden bathtub inside. Bathing there while taking in the sights of the mountain, the trees, and the gentle flow of the river creates a meditative experience where time seemed to stand still. The gentle stream provided a perfect white noise for our peaceful rest. It’s a shame that our tight schedule prevented a longer stay. This was a great stay - the bed and living room were very comfortable and the onsen was fabulous. You need a car to stay here but it was easy to drive to local walks and to the supermarket.

We had a good time staying with our 7-month old and our labrador. We stayed in the wintertime so we definitely enjoyed warming up at the sauna and in front of the bonfire. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our dog got along well with the resident dog. We hope we can visit again in the summertime.

Clean and spacious home, with everything we needed. The private onsen was a highlight.

The hospitality and food were off the charts! The food was unexpectedly incredible and the best meals we experienced on our three week trip. OKUMA and his wife were perfect hosts. It felt like a homestay. The accommodation is traditional and simple and the somewhat remote location is a perfect respite from the hectic cities. We walked up into the hills and around the island and travelled to Saiki and Oita.

The place is private and quiet. Maybe due to time of the year in March, the wind is very big. It keeps rattling the windows through my 3 nights stay. Other than that, all are good.
