Food Scene

This place is awesome! It's a Japanese food court at the Ala Moana Mall. But just because I say food court at the mall, don't go in expecting S'barro's and Orange Julius. There are dozens and dozens of different restaurants serving everything from Sushi to Ramen to Takoyaki and more. I've been over and over and still haven't been able to try every restaurant. But here's the best part, $1 beer! The cheapest deal for alcohol I've yet to find in Honolulu.

Cash only Japanese restaurant that makes amazing gyoza and ramen. I go almost every week and get the veggie gyoza and kimchi ramen, but everything I've tried there has been delicious. Bonus: the man and his wife who run the shop both speak Japanese.

Be ready to stand in line if you want some of the best udon in Honolulu! I knew Marukame had to be good when I first saw it because the line was at least 100 people long. When I finally decided to give it a try and stand in line I was not disappointed. I love the curry udon and their incredible selection of tempura sides. Definitely worth the wait!

Another one of the major beaches in Honolulu is right around the corner! Great place for a morning swim thanks to the long breakwall.

Essentials

Everything you need if you need it quick. It's literally a few steps away. I wouldn't shop here if I had the time to go to Don Quijote's, though.

Don Quijote is Hawaii's answer to Wal-Mart but with a local flare. It has everything you need at a price that will fit even a traveler on a budget.
