To reach Baixa-Chiado from the Saldanha metro station, you take the red line (direction Aeroporto) for one stop and then change at Alameda onto the green line (direction Cais do Sodre) for six stops getting off at Baixa/Chiado. To reach Bairro Alto, exit on the Chiado side which means taking the exit with a very long series of escalators. This brings you out in a sizeable square, Praça de Luís de Camões, and Bairro Alto is off to your right. Take any of the narrow side streets or follow the crowd. Taxis are cheap in Lisbon and split four ways you might even save a few cents doing the journey by cab. Ask to be dropped at Praça Camões.
