Drinks & Nightlife

Excellent food with three venues: the pizza and burritos on the left, theater in the middle (with tables where you can have your pizza or burritos or drinks brought in to you!!), and the more upscale-yet-homey (think glossy woods and chalkboards listing wines of the night) grille on the right. Fabulous avalanche pizza on the left. Excellent ales in the grill on the right, where it can be loud but a great "going out" night spot. Try the garlic cilantro fries!!!

Arts & Culture

This is a beautiful building which houses a collection of fascinating photographs from the early 20th century in the Aleutian Islands. Go into the atrium and ask Mr. Jaime at the desk if he can show you a few.

Something for everyone here. A wide open lawn for sunning by the fountain, an espresso bar, a huge children's area with big bright windows and daily readings, and the best-kept secret, the Ann Stevens room over the Alaska wing. Lush rugs, south facing windows, old books, peace and quiet!

Sightseeing

Go park at the bookstore and walk the Spine, a roughly .5 mile long indoor walk from the middle of the campus all the way to the library on the east end. During school sessions, you'll walk past basketball, volleyball, or gymnastics practices in the sports complex, hockey practice on the ice, and live music in the student union during lunch hour. If the sun is shining, walk on the outdoor paved trails. It's a beautiful campus.

The views from even just the parking lot are beautiful. The drive up to the lot is long and challenging during the winter (good winter tires required) but easy in the summer. A favorite spot during the midnight sunset season.

Walking in the downtown neighborhoods, this is a great stop for a hot coffee drink :) Also has a deli bar and fresh made pizzas and sandwiches, available to go or to eat there. Beware the lunch rush of all the downtown attorneys jockeying to get their curry chicken bowls. :)
