The Antwerp ZOO is one of the oldest and best-known zoos in Europe. The Zoo’s beautiful buildings and garden have been listed as monuments and when it was built in 1843, more than 150 years ago it was just outside of the city’s walls. Now – the city has grown so much that the ZOO is now in the middle of town and is a green oasis next to Central Station.

Today, port activity is more concentrated in the north, but the feeling of a port is still very much present. Savour the historical atmosphere of the old loading dock with its monumental warehouses, lanterns, hangars and cobblestones.

Recently, the station was completely renovated and in 2007 a tunnel underneath the station and a part of Antwerp was opened, reverting the station’s status as a terminus where are all trains have to turn back. In 2009, the American magazine Newsweek chose the Antwerp Central Station as the fourth most beautiful train station in the world.
