One of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world - to be more exact it was rated number 21. With its cosy cafés and restaurants, historic buildings, large parks and one seriously impressive neo-Gothic church, Sagene feels very far removed from the city’s slick new developments. But this part of town isn’t just living in the past – the district is also home to Sagene Bryggeri, Norway’s first climate-neutral brewery, and Geitmyra, a sustainable gardening and cookery school for kids.

Traveler advice

Don't miss

Sundays!

All the stores are shut on Sundays, so don’t plan to shop then. (Restaurants, bars and museums are open)
Getting around

Download the “ruter” app.

The app can plan the trip, tell you the fastest way, and is also where you buy tickets
Ways to save

Walk around town

The best way to explore the city and the old neighbourhoods is by walking. It is not a huge city so you should be able to get across town in 50 minutes.
Ways to save

Tap water is better than bottled

No need to waste your money on bying water- it is just Norwegian tap water from another area. (Unless you want the bottle and don't feel like a soda)
What to pack

Alcohol?

If you are planning to cook and enjoy a class of wine, it might be worth bringing some. Alcohol is really expensive in Norway.
