Our favorite friends and family restaurant

After a day made up of equal parts chasing the kids and protecting the family from wind-blown umbrella javelins at the beach, you’re probably going to want a beer. Maui Brewing Company’s flagship restaurant is a large, open-air, and family-friendly space where you can unwind while your offspring entertain themselves with oversized Jenga and Connect4. This is the largest craft brewery in Hawaii and as dedicated to sourcing local ingredients for their beers as they are for their restaurants. Come here for the daily live music and quality bar food, and to try any of their 35 beers on tap.

Monkeypod makes a mean Mai Tai, with Lilikoi foam made with Old Lahiana rum. What is lilikoi? Another great question. Lilikoi is just the Hawaiian word for passion fruit, which has been growing on the island since the 1920s.

This is a casual inexpensive restaurant where you order at a counter and eat at outdoor on picnic tables. Fresh fish such as such as ono, mahi, or opakapaka. Line up starts early for dinner but moves quickly. Great prices, great menu selection and good quality fish.

Book a table on their outdoor deck and be amazed of the beauty and the great service. This Happy Hour is shorter but definitely doesn’t disappoint. Located at the Wailea Beach Resort from 5 to 6:30, this Happy Hour locale is the imagined creation of famed chef Roy Yamaguchi and his team. $6 craft beers is a collection from around the Hawaiian islands. $7 well drinks for those that are craving some bourbon or scotch or other spirit. How about a “Pineapple Collins” or may another specialty drink? Those are $10 but so good. And lets not forget about something to nibble on at the same time. $10 Appetizers. You have to try the Szechuan Spiced Baby Back Ribs. Finger licking good.

For over 20 years, Kihei Caffe has proudly served as the go-to place for creative local grinds. They operate as a counter-serve establishment, although they have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating right onsite. You’re also welcome to grab your meal as takeout and jet across the street to dine right on the waterfront. When you want creative local grinds served with a smile, swing by Kihei Café to get your fill. At this popular Maui eatery, their aloha spirit shines through in all they do, making you feel right at home in an instant. Just be ready to queue in a long line alongside all the other eager patrons – no matter when you arrive.

City/town information

Kihei is a beach town on the south shore of Maui. In the tiny area of Kihei in Maui it’s hard to tell fantasy from reality as you look out over clear water while feeling the softness and warmth of sand between your toes. Surf, swim or relax as you would at any beach. Bring your sunscreen and a camera to make your own postcard of the gorgeous setting. While South Kihei is known for its array of great swimming beaches, bars and restaurants, North Kihei is home to attractions such as the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge, Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale Sanctuary Visitor Center, and Sugar Beach, an uncrowded alternative for morning walks or sunset gazing.

Kihei 4th Friday

the 4th Friday night of the month has been an extra special time to be in Kihei, when the Azeka Shopping Center on South Kihei Road bursts into life between 18:00 and 21:00. On a normal 4th Friday there’s a DJ, live music, street performers, arts and craft stands and a choice of food trucks for anything from shave ice to fish tacos. Kihei 4th Friday is a child-friendly event, setting up a Keiki (Kids’) Zone, with face-painting, balloon modelling, fun science experiments, hula hooping and bubble blowing.
