Great little classic pub in the heart of Pinehurst Village. Best pimento cheeseburger around, especially if you catch them on a day that it's available on an English muffin.

Don't write it off just because it's in a gas station. This might be the best sandwich ("wedgie") spot in town. Only open for lunch.

Our absolute favorite breakfast/brunch/lunch. It's small, so there's often a wait on weekends, but you can grab a coffee and wander around downtown, or claim a bench and people-watch, while you wait to be called. You'll be glad you did.

Yes, it's a chain, but if you want to watch a game somewhere with tons of TVs and much-better-than-your-average-sports-bar food, this is your best bet. The patio's great year-round, thanks to heaters and a giant fireplace.

A total Southern Pines classic. The white pizza is perfection. Just FYI, there will be a wait on weekends - and it's cash-only. (If you want the Vito's pizza without the full Vito's experience, there's a second, much smaller location in a small shopping center on Hwy. 5 between Pinehurst and Aberdeen.)

About 45 minutes from Pinehurst is Seagrove, a community with the largest concentration of working potters in the United States - more than 50 pottery shops are within a 20-mile radius. Take a day or two to explore the countryside, stopping by shops as you see them - you'll likely meet the potters themselves. A great rainy day activity!

The largest of the local libraries, the Southern Pines Public Library offers free activities ranging from children's storytimes to writing groups to book clubs. It's a quiet, comfortable place to work or browse the book collection. And if you need a break from reading, there's usually a community puzzle in progress in the periodicals section!
