Day Trips from Denver

City/town information

All of these options offer a great mix of outdoor and in town options for recreation and entertainment.
Numerous trails for hiking (Boulder Canyon Trail, Mt. Sanitas, Chatauqua Park, NCAR, just to name a few.) In town, restaurants and shops are unique to Boulder. A personal favorite is The Boulder Dushanbe Tea House, a gift to the city of Boulder from a sister city in Tajikistan.

Wonderful, rewarding hiking trails (Maxwell Falls, Elk Meadow Park, Lair of the Bear, Three Sisters.) Evergreen Lake offers kayak & SUP rentals in the summer and ice skating in the winter. You can also walk around the lake. The town offers great restaurants and shops too. The Evergreen Golf Course is public, and there is a good restaurant Keys on the Green. Willow Creek is good for fine dining, and Creekside Cellars is good if you’re a wine lover. Live music can be found at Captain Jack & Little Bear. Lookout for the deer and elk!

Wander the trails at Garden of the Gods (reservations required) or drive up to Pike's Peak (reservations required.) Both are spectacular! Tour the Air Force Academy. If you'd like to explore a historic town in a stunning setting, check out Manitou Springs and Old Colorado City. Both of these landmarks offer turn of the century architecture, shops and restaurants. The Olympic Training Center & Museum are interesting.

Sightseeing

Much more than a concert venue, Red Rocks offers hiking trails with breathtaking geologic features and spectacular views of the area. Here is a link to the website's recreation options: https://www.redrocksonline.com/explore-red-rocks/recreation/ And if you'd like to visit a mining town with some good food options afterwards, Idaho Springs is only 30 minutes away. Take a dip in Indian Hot Springs pool (indoor, year round) for relaxation and refreshment. Our favorite restaurant there is Clear Creek Cidery and Eatery.
