Nature

You can see spectacular Quiraing hills from one of your bedroom windows. Many people visit only the first section of path, but the complete hill circuit goes further, passing the Prison, the Needle, the Tables and other features before climbing back to return over the top of the hill.

You can park right above An Corran Beach, where you can find fossilized dinosaurs foot prints. The footprints are visible only during low tide, which you can check on tidetimes.org.uk/portree-tide-times. From the slipway, which is located only a few hundred meters from the beach, you can walk up on the new path over the cliffs, reaching the Columba 1400 centre on the other side. If you enjoy fishing, there is a small harbour wall in the slipway, which is a popular spot for fishermen.

Short walk reaching the easternmost point of Trotternish peninsula. There is good path all the way to the shore (very muddy after rain), walking out to the end of the point on a steep path above vertical drops. Although the place was not very popular amongst tourists, thanks to the discovery of new dinosaurs’ footprints on Skye in 2018, the Brothers Point is becoming more popular. Even if you are not interested in the dinosaur history, this place is worth a visit. Walk along the coastline and let the path takes you to the wee peninsula. The path is steep there, but the views are just amazing. In the distance you can see Kilt Rock with Mealt Falls.

Along with the Quiraing, the Old Man of Storr is probably the most popular place on Skye, visited by many tourists every day, so in rainy weather the path might get pretty muddy and slippy higher up. Take your time, explore the area and take pictures of the Old Man from different angles. If you go closer to the cliffs, be careful of danger from rockfall, mostly after heavy rains.

An unusual place, that looks like a miniature Quiraing and got its nickname thanks to small round-topped grassy hills that look like a place from another world. Although Skye has a long history involving the Fairies (most of them are related to Dunvegan Castle), the Fairy Glen has no real legends or stories involving fairies that can be traced. In recent years visitors have started to move the rocks to create spirals on the ground and leaving coins in the centre as an offering to the fairies for good luck. We are asking you not to do this as locals have repeatedly removed these stones spirals in an attempt to keep the Glen in its natural state. If you see these stone circles or rock stacks, you can help us to remove them. The crofters and their sheep will be grateful to you. However the Fairy Glen is still a magical place to visit and is a must see in the area.
