Eyjafjörður is one of the best areas in Iceland for birdwatching. The Eyjafjarðará, Hörgá and Svarfaðardalsá river estuaries are among the places in Iceland with the greatest variety of bird species. The northernmost place in the country, Grímsey island on the Arctic Circle, has one of Iceland’s most spectacular bird cliffs, with a huge Puffin colony and the second-largest Razorbill colony in the country (the largest is Látrabjarg in the West Fjords). Eyjafjörður offers a range of organized birdwatching locations, with picnic places, information signs for visitors, marked footpaths and hides for birdwatchers.

The facility can accommodate up to 200 visitors at a time. Open seven days a week from 11:00 in the mornings until 24:00 during the evenings.

Note that when you have arrived in Akureyri all transportation with-in the town with the city buses are free of charge. The bus schedule covers a time-frame from 6.28 am till 22.36 pm all weekdays and during weekends from 12.18 till 18.55. Exceptions are on public holidays, for further information visit www.streato.is, choose Akureyri Citybus
