Alight at Newton MRT station and follow the signs. Its pretty hard to miss when there are many tourist heading to that direction. Newton Food centre is an all in one place where you can get all the famous Singaporean food. For example, Barbecue Sting Ray, Chili Crab, Black Pepper Crab, Char Kuay Teow (Fried flat rice noodles), Cai tao kway (Carrot Cake, black or white), Satay and many more. Be warned that this is a place frequented by tourist, so the prices are a bit more expensive. However, since it’s so close to the apartment, the travel time might compensate for the price

One of Singapore’s old school coffee house. Try the charcoal roasted bread with Singapore style coffee. To order coffee say “Kopi”, this means coffee with condensed milk and evaporated milk. For black coffee say “Kopi O”. For black coffee with no sugar say “Kopi O Kosong”. If you can memorize this, you will impress many Singaporeans. Replace “Kopi” with “Teh” and you will get tea instead of coffee.

Another legendary coffee house situated near China Town. A stroll in this area will bring you back to an olden days China town. Order the Kopi Gu you (pronounced Yew). Coffee with milk (condensed and evaporated), and butter will be served to you. Legend has it, with butter, coffee will be at its peak efficacy. However, the taste (quite subtle) is also worth the try if you are not looking for a caffeine jolt.

At night, one of the streets are closed and it becomes “Satay street”. Go for stall number 7 or best satay. Order the chicken, beef or mutton satays. Try to avoid the prawns as they are quite expensive. Beer ladies will also try to ply their drinks to you. Sightseeing

As the name implies, it’s a small enclave of Indians in Singapore. There are many things to see here, one of them is Mustafa centre which sells literally everything and is open for 24 hours. Aside from there explore the many southern Indian restaurants and temples. Do be sensitive on what you wear inside the temple.

Singapore’s main shopping belt (maybe with Marina Bay Sands close behind?). This is where the rich come and dump their money for branded goods and drive their expensive cars. On Sunday, its flooded by Filipino maids who spend most of their lone day offs at Lucky plaza and its vicinity. On non-Sundays, if you wish to explore Lucky plaza, you might get lucky having a seat in one of the small Filipino/Indonesian eateries.

Another billion-dollar hotel opposite the billion-dollar garden. The popular and frequently photographed land mark hotel has all the highest end fashion on sale in the same roof. Many celebrity chefs opened their restaurants in this venue and surprisingly taste good, if you are in the mood to splurge in food and shopping. If you still have money to burn, try the casino which is in the middle of the compound. Many tourists have tried to sneak into the infinity pool illegally, however, my suggestion is to go to the rooftop bar instead and get a drink during dusk to view Singapore unobstructed (You need to pay an entrance fee of 20 SGD but the that can be redeemed for a drink). Pretty view.

This location used to be where the first few waves of Chinese immigrants settle down in the early 1900s. Today a new wave of Chinese settlers has invaded the old Chinese. The modern Chinese. There is now an eclectic mix of old Singaporean Chinese buildings and modern Chinese China food being plied everywhere in Chinatown. Many foods to try in this area (Beware when you are buying electronics here!). Look for Buddha tooth relic temple where legend has it that a piece of Buddha’s tooth is stored there.
