Full restaurant, it's also a perfect walk for your morning coffee. I almost categorized this as "restaurant", I love this place every morning I'm in town. These folks are the best, really. Also open all afternoon and into the evening.

Historic hole-in-the-wall type neighborhood secret, it just has that special vibe. Specializes in Cajun deep-fried seafood, Dempsey's is neat and clean, but not fancy. Portions are huge, and the beer is ice-cold. Go when in the mood to put your diet on vacation at this very laid-back favorite where everyone is welcome.

This is a food hall with tons of choices, so everyone can get their own favorite. The line-up of restaurants changes from time to time, but this is a fun and popular place to try oysters, pho, tacos, cajun/creole, vegan, pastries, and even do a little produce shopping. Housed in an old produce market, the space has been fully restored and it is glorious. Live jazz in the evenings, too. This cannot be missed.

My personal favorite for dinner - cozy and intimate in a funky vibrant spot, and open late. They reinvent a whole new gourmet menu each week. What other restaurant even does that? Closed Monday and Tuesday, and any Sunday where the Saints play at home. Brunch on the weekends. Even a taco Thursday. Read their menu this week at http://www.suisgeneris.com/

Though it's in Mid-City, this is one of my favorites and it's a New Orleans local classic. There are about a dozen local, multi-generational restaurants in New Orleans that everyone just cherishes, and Mandina's is one of them. Creole and Italian comfort food. For dessert, walk over to Angelo Brocato's for ice cream.

Last stop of the new N. Rampart/St. Claude Streetcar line, the newest in the city at the time I write this. Opened in Oct. 2016, there is already a new Mardi Gras krewe that will ride it to celebrate on Fat Tuesday.

Arts & Culture

Go online to check out what interesting show or performance is going on while you're here! You won't forget it! Symphony, live theatre, ballet, piano recitals. This venue is an old church that historically served the downtown German population, nowadays it's even rented out for weddings and receptions. Multi-purpose and eclectic, google them for more info on what live performances are coming up.

Use our bikes, and why not ride over to the newest park in town? We love this new park, they did such a great job! Climb up to the top of the Rusty Rainbow bridge for a breathtaking view and great photos. And check out the rest of Bywater while you're at it!

Sightseeing

Do you get excited about street art? Well I do, and St. Claude is like an open-air gallery for our local artists. See if you can find the Banksy. One of my favorites is Jeremy Novy's mural outside of Hi-Ho Lounge. Walking or bicycling St. Claude from Bywater to Rampart street is an adventure that rewards with so many little discoveries from ancient dive bars to art galleries, funky boutiques and resale shops, to honest-to-goodness voodoo shops, wine stores, cafes, Turkish restaurants, tacos, pizza, chinese, BBQ...ok I'm a little hungry as I write this.
