Visit the enchanting Baroque Palace of Isola Bella and its amazing terraced gardens! Until 1630 Isola Bella was a rock inhabited by fishermen, with two small churches and a few vegetable gardens. The Borromeos, who had already been owners of Isola Madre since 1501, from the first two decades of the 17th century with Giulio Caesar III and Carlo III focused their interest on the island, launching the grandiose project that was to lead to the creation of the palazzo and the garden. In Isola Madre you will find a special English botanical garden and an amazing palace. The botanical heritage and the strong exotic impression have made it what Gustave Flaubert called “the most voluptuous place I’ve seen in the world”. If you want to visit the 3 islands we suggest you to spend the entire day sightseeing, for Isola Bella and Isola Pescatori half a day is enough. How can you reach the Islands? The nearest boat departure is in Imbarcadero of Stresa, where you will find the public lines (Navigazione Lago Maggiore) and the private boats. Along the lakeside of Stresa you will find other private motorboat lines with prices similar to the public lines (CMA boat company). If you want to visit both Isola Madre and Isola Bella there’s a combined ticket at a special price, for information and tickets visit the official website: www.isoleborromee.it For lunch or dinner on “Isola Pescatori” we suggest "La Pescheria" or Ristorante "Italia", for lunch/dinner or aperitif on Isola Bella we recommend RistoLounge Elvezia.

The Fisherman’s Island is a small village of fisherman in the middle of the lake, is the only island still inhabitated. Walk through its narrow alleys and little squares, get lost in the small streets, have a look on the local markets and buy a souvernir! The atmosphere during the evening is so special, suggested a dinner on the island.
