There is a gas station, Wells Fargo bank, grocery store, pharmacy, etc. only five miles away from the house in Cool, California. This is a 10-15 minute drive. There is also several restaurants and liquor/convenience stores.

This is gold country. There is a lot of sites revolving around early California history in this region. My personal favorite is Historic Old Folsom which is located along the American River. There are many antique shops, a museum, black smith shop, many restaurants and a pretty vibrant night life. I also really love the Folsom Prison Museum which is very affordable and extremely interesting. This is one of the oldest prisons in California and has a rather interesting history. The museum features handicrafts made prisoners, inventions, and weapons. It is small and there is usually a prison guard presiding over the museum. You can also see Johnny Cash memorabilia. If you really love museums and are willing to make the drive then I would recommend visiting the Sacramento Train Museum. It is affiliated with the Smithsonian and has an internationally famous collection of trains and is located in Old Sacramento. Old Auburn is also a great place. City Hall in Old Auburn is beautiful and was in the running to become the State Capital. There is a museum in the Old City Hall that is small but worth a visit!
