Here are some tips where to go during your stay at the Vila Maria for dinner, drinks, entertainment or sport.
It is a chain of coffee shops and bakeries in Portugal. Here you can have a nice lunch (soup of the day, sandwich, coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice) for some 7 euros. We recommend the chicken sandwich or mozarella if you prefer no meat.
The atmosphere is very cozy and friendly. There is a big table for everybody to seat together. But you can also have a private table, if it free.
Remember that in Portugal most of restaurants are closed between 15:00-19:00 pm. However, Padaria is opened! There could be a smaller choice of meals available though.

This is the closest supermarket - just 2 minutes away from the Vila Maria. It has always a nice choice of discounted wines, reasonable fruits and vegetables. Here you make a good provisioning for your kitchen. However do not expect anything too fancy.
The bakery is good and offers quite a big choice of breads and rolls, most of them of wheat flour though. There is also a nice coffee shop.
Do not miss a coffee shop inside the supermarket. Beside a cheap lunch, you can have here a coffee with something we haven't seen anywhere else - a "bretzel". It is a biscuit shaped like a wide knot with pudding and almonds or chocolate. In Portugal famous for its sweets, we found this one the most tasty. It is the only place you can buy it (as far as we know)!

This is a local restaurant with a casual atmosphere, decorated with furniture of 50's and 60's. It is just on the other side of the train station (through an underground passageway).
The menu is short but meals are good and not so heavy as the majority in Portugal. You can try an octopus here.
Remember to make a reservation for dinner. It happens it is full.
The restaurant opens for lunch at 12:30 p.m. and closes at 15:00 p.m., for dinner 19:30 - 23:00 p.m. Sundays and Mondays it is closed.
After a dinner you can go for a life concert or play bilard and have beer at pub in the SMUP - local cultural centre (the same building).

A small beach, hidden from winds. The best spot for SUP (stand up paddle) with long waves. Here you can find the school and a rental GUSU. During a low tide a rocky bottom appears with natural pools. At a high tide not recommended for kids since waves become too strong and it is too deep.

The biggest and the most crowded beach on a Lisbon coast with a huge fortress at one end. The place famous for surfing schools and lessons. Along the whole beach leads a concrete promenade with cafes and restaurants. The sunrise and the sunset must be seen here!

Just next to the Vila Maria a rental bike. You can hire here a mountain, city, race or electric bike. And it is worth to go along the coast...

It is a simple restaurant and bar with a very big (as for Portugal) beer choice. The restaurant doesn't close after 15:00 and reopens at 19:00 as most Portuguese restaurants do but work without any break. The place is just hanging over the Ocean and has a wonderful view to sunsets. There are also some life mini concerts. The atmosphere is very relaxed.
