Darkly lit, snug dining room. Patio out front faces Douglas and can be noisy from the traffic. Lovely wine selection. The menu has a nice selection of sandwiches, salads and entrees. You can order and/or spend a little or a lot.

The Watermark is a pleasant, little bookstore with a café attached to it. As a former librarian, I endorse it as one of the best Independent Bookstores in the world.

This is fairly new restaurant and probably the only French one in town. The dining room is small with an open kitchen. The menu and food is good.

This café lives up to its name! The space is a renovated doctor's office and you would never know it. The menu is farm to table and is written on a chalkboard. Everything I have had here has been tasty...and beautiful. Detailed review here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g39143-d8522338-Reviews-Beautiful_Day_Cafe-Wichita_Kansas.html

This is the second and very different than the first location of this gastro pub. While the atmosphere is lively, it is very much a neighborhood bar where families congregate with their kids. They have a woodfired oven that cranks out tasty appetizers, toasty sandwiches and personal-sized pizzas.

I would put this place in the essential Wichita category. The restaurant is tiny and owned by a Korean family. There might be ten tables. The walls are covered by bookcases with paperbacks and polaroid pictures of patrons through the years. The food is very fresh and the green bean kimchi is a must have. Order the special bulgogi which is prepared at your table and served in lettuce leaves.

I love bahn mi sandwiches and this place is the best bang for your buck. Lunch special with chips and a drink runs about $5. Detailed review here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g39143-d8454311-Reviews-Kimlan-Wichita_Kansas.html

Out in the country, but not far away, this outdoor café with Reverie coffee and homemade pastries is something special. See detailed review here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g39106-d8467736-Reviews-Bramble_Days_Cafe-Valley_Center_Kansas.html Also, they offer a $70 pp for multi-course meal with wine. Classy, but casual. Only one sittng at 6:30p on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights in the summer. Let me know if you want to go; we can let management know you are on your way. This space is renovated from when it was Aunt Hattie’s tea room from more than a decade ago. It is very comfortable and stylish. Anything I have had on the menu is inventive and tasty. The real standout here is the Sunday brunch buffet at $12. See detailed review at: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g39143-d12117273-Reviews-Soul_Sisters_Fusion-Wichita_Kansas.html

The Muse is within the Wichita Art Museum and may be accessed without paying admission. It is pretty much the only restaurant in town with a beautiful view of the river. The menu here is compact, but everything is very good. Of note is the Cranberry Chicken Salad and Braised Portuguese Roast entrees. The house salad and dressing is memorable. If you save room for dessert, it will be something special. The mini bar rounds out your choices.

I think this is the best Mexican restaurant in town and the place has a lovely patio. They make their own ice cream and other Mexican desserts. They offer nightly specials and if you want something that is not listed on the menu, just ask and they will probably make it for you. The tortas are marvilosas.

Drinks & Nightlife

Across the street and owned by the same folks as Wine Dive, the space is very much like a pub. The patio is right in the parking lot, but is pleasant and quiet. The food and service should be better than it is, but the atmosphere makes it worth it.

Sightseeing

If there is only one place you see in Wichita, it should be here. The Keeper was built for the bi-centennial and renovated a decade ago. It is synonymous with our city. The statue sits at the confluence of the Little and Big Arkansas rivers which is sacred ground to Native Americans. During the summer, the fire is lit from 9:00p-9:15p.

Go at Sunset to see the lights on the river. If you're lucky there will be buskers playing music on the walk up to and over the bridge.
