Food Scene
the traditional fish and chips! We eat deepfried fish & chips or mashed potatoes with vinegar and mayoneise :) Drink "pærebrus" (sugardrink with pear taste) or "ananasbrus" (sugardrink with pineapple taste) as the locals do! This is a very low-key food-to-go place, it's the local fast food. Enjoy it outside on the pier. Even though you probably have to fight some seagulls off...!

Things like pizza with klippfisk (salted cod), Skagensalat (shrimp salad with lime, sourcream etc, dill, etc - very good). Also burgers etc. At night (fridays and saturdays) it's more a club scene. There's a more fine-dining gourmet restaurant on the second floor that is really good for 4- or more courses.

Cafe on the Pier that sells ex fishanburger and an upscale fish and fish, they have som home baked cakes and bread and different cafe meals. they also sell a good variety of local produce of food and drink such as differen cheeses (including famous Tingvollost), flat breads, smoked salmon, small scale ice creams etc. I definitally would recommend to stop by.

Every thursdays they have After work meny, so you can eat dinners at very reduced prices, for instance a really good burger plate for 99,- , less than half price normal. Drinks and an ok selection of beers.

If you want to go hiking, very close to my place ( a few minutes drive before walking) - but it is really steep and maybe for people who are used to go hiking only...

This is where I take my sunday walks... Peace and quiet along the sea. You walk from my house, you will be there in 15 minutes and then just walk along the sea and back. Maybe you'll see some cows and farmers along the way :)

Be sure to pack some food and drinks in case the cafe /tavern on Veiholmen is closed. And be sure to bring some warm clothes because it may be a bit windy :)

An island far out in the sea, this is a half day - trip or more if you want to stay longer. There's a special light out there, very idyllic. You can make appointments for going on eagle- safari or kayakking. When on Smøla, you have to visit Veiholmen, the very tip of the island. Very charming little place right by the great sea. Be sure to pack some food and drinks in case the cafe /tavern on Veiholmen is closed. And be sure to bring some warm clothes because it may be a bit windy :)

A must-see. And you HAVE to make at least one stop along the way. My tip is to stop at the big, modern cafe by the big parking lot, buy an icecream and walk the floating trail around the island. Good place for taking pictures of the Atlantic Road and get a feel of the place. The floating track takes only 10 minutes or so around the whole thing. And while you are there, you should seriously consider taking the boat from the very same parking lot, out to Håholmen Havstuer (an old fishermans island 5 minutes away with boat). The boat departs one or two times every hour.

The worlds oldest transporter that is still in traffic! This is a small passanger boat that goes between the different islands of Kristiansund on a daily basis. A good way to see the town from the sea, just be seated for the whole tour or take a stop at Innlandet.

This is an old fishermens society, today a populare place to stay for locals during summer. Old small wooden houses, an old church and a lot of charm! About an hour or so by boat from the Pier in Kristiansund. Read more:
