Soupy noodles with fresh veggies, fresh-made onion cakes and the best tasting green beans I've ever had make it easier for me to overlook the questionable hygiene, non-organic ingredients, and slow service. Cheap. Closed Wednesday.

In the UCSF student union. I don't think there is a better view than this in San Francisco. Have a sandwich, glass of wine and espresso and sit on the deck overlooking Golden Gate Park, the Presidio and beyond to Marin. Spectacular. Don't expect much from the food. It's just OK.

Where to start...OK, first, this place is huge so showing up without a reservation at 7 on a Saturday night is no problem. Several different seating areas in a super cool, modern space - dumpling bar, communal table, main hall - so it doesn't feel cavernous, even though it is. Second, this is not your normal goopy, gloppy, pour over white rice, MSG laced chinese food. This is fresh, beautifully presented(but not pretentious) and thoughtfully paced food so you can enjoy each dish on it's own. Food for the adventurous along with favorites you'd expect. Third, it's not terribly expensive. I've spent half this much on burritos and this was WAY better. ~$30/per person with a drink.

Lers Ros does a reasonably good job with thai food. I find so often thai gets too sweet for my palate. This spot manages to have a variety of flavors - spicy, sweet, savory and tangy. Upscale surroundings in ultra-hopping Hayes Valley. The service is super efficient so best to have somewhere to go after as they turn tables quickly. Also in The Mission on 16th near Guerrero.

We find our selves here at least twice a month when we tire of veggie fare and NEED a burger. Burgers are what they do - bison, beef, turkey, veggie - many different ways. The haystack is a must - onion, zucchini, sweet potato and potato fries. The salads and sides are ever-changing and always fantastic. Beer and wine. The decor is modern rustic. Order at the counter and find a seat. At busiest times you may have to wait just a few minutes for a table, but they will time your food to arrive hot.

This is completely off the tourist path but if you like a perfect thin crust pizza or house made sausage in an outdoor setting, this place is great! It's just a trailer where there used to be a gas station, but they've converted it to a garden setting with picnic tables that is simply charming. The salads are just as amazing as the pizza. Good food takes time, so order and head across the street to Flora Grubb Gardens to check out the exquisite gifts and a horticultural display like no other. There's a lot going on at the Ferry Building at the foot of Market Street. This iconic building underwent a stunning renovation in the early 00's so is worth a visit just for that. It houses a foodie paradise along with adjunct business like Heath Ceramics and the Gardener. On Saturdays and Thursdays there is a traditional Farmers Market surrounding the building from 8-2(Sat) and 9-1(Th). My favorite place to rest after taking it all in(and it's a lot!) is Boulet's Larder.

Because you forgot to bring a jacket and it's cold in San Francisco! Crossroads is very budget- friendly because it's almost all second hand, well edited for style and condition. Men's and women's.
when traveling you probably aren't thinking about plants for your home or garden, but if you are fond of either, this place is a must see for inspiration. You have never seen anything like these gardens. There is a coffee kiosk inside and heated benches outside where you can just sit and take it all in. Bonus of All Good Pizza across the street if you are hungry after being so utterly inspired(and caffeinated).

Because you've never done this before. Your group will be locked in a themed room and have an hour to free yourselves from a series of rooms with only the clues and your problem solving skills to rely on. Themes include "art heist" and "Alcatraz". Great fun and close to Chinatown and North beach for a meal before or after. Not appropriate for kids under 12.

Even on a cloudy day, as long as it isn't windy, it's a perfect diversion and unusual way to see the bay - from a standup paddle board(SUP) or kayak. No experience needed to enjoy and no wetsuit or swimsuit required(you aren't likely to get wet). About $20/generous hour. Afterwards, stop for a meal nearby at Le Garage, Bar Bocce or Fish.

Indoor climbing gym with walls that open up to Crissy field and the Bay on nice days. It's a scene and an entertaining one at that as climbers of all ability strut around checking each other out. You can book someone to belay you if you don't have a partner or take a quick belay test with your partner and climb on. If you've never climbed - no problem - they will teach you. There's also a gym, yoga and small gear shop.
