Food Scene

Great value for money. Delicious meals that locals love. Also great for a few beers behind the steamy windows.

Modern Scandinavian & Finnish flavours. A 3-course menu will cost you around 50 euros (no drinks included). The portions are small, but this isn't a place to fill your stomach rather than your soul.

LUNCH. This is a great lunch place, popular among locals working in the offices in central Helsinki. With around 10 € you get to eat from a warm, fresh and often delicious buffet with multiple options to choose from. The quality is good, and coffee is included in the price. The place is owned by the Volunteer Firefighter's Association in Helsinki, which you might notice from the decor.

Great modern Scandinavian kitchen for some finer dining. A good option for Juuri (see below), as the two are fairly similar at their modern takes on classic Scandinavian flavours and fresh imaginative new ideas. See menu online, and reserve if you want to make sure they have a table waiting for you.

A cozy little coffee shop with great croissants and fresh bakes. Tucked away next to multiple similar shops, you may want to test all of them :)

Drinks & Nightlife

Best drinks bar in Helsinki. It's a small dark nook that you could pass numerous times without ever suspecting what is behind the doors. Great service, special drinks (9-15 euros each) and a mysterious atmosphere.

Newest and most interesting addition to the live music scene in Helsinki. The interiors with blue lights are an incredible environment to soak in the live music that this place offers almost nightly. Check out their website for entrance fee info and program.

This great brewery is as nice during the day as it is during the early evening. They have a few great plates of food always on the menu to go with your locally brewed beer. You can also pop in for a coffee or any other drink and not feel pressured to leave. Nice place to read a book or use wifi on a rainy day while taking in the slow living and trams passing on "Freda", the street where the place is located.

Parks & Nature

Kaivopuisto is to Helsinki what Central Park is to New York. Locals love taking a walk in this part of the town.

A bit less variety (especially in fresh produce) than at K-Market (see below) but Alepa has longer opening hours than K-Market.
