In the way to Nordeste, coming from Povoação, you can stop and visit the 'Miradouros' (viewpoints) over the sea, with beautiful gardens. You will want to visit the Praia do Lombo Gordo, a nice beach.

A small island, about 10 minutes from Vila Franca do Campo (on boat). It's a natural reserve and has a small but nice beach. Because of it's shape it's called 'the princess ring' :)

One the way to Vila Franca do Campo you won't want to miss this small but misterious lake, rounded by trees. It's one of the greenest places in S. Miguel.

The first village of the island. You can visit the most ancient church in S. Miguel and see some monuments referring to the arrival of the portuguese sailors.

It's a mountain, the highest point of the island, From there you can see both sides of the island. You have to do a long hiking trail to get there. One of the trails starts 5 min. away from my house.

I suggest Caminho do Pico Longo. It's a gravel road, surrounded by trees, cows and flowers (depending on the season). You can walk and enjoy the nature or use it to jog. I love it!
