Nudel is by far the Berkshires' most creative restaurant. Chef/owner Bjorn Somlo was a James Beard finalist a few years ago, and he continues to do innovative, delicious takes on local produce and meat. It's tiny and fills up fast, so make a reservation online.

This is one of our family's favorite hikes. Whether you take the fire road (easier) or the trail (a bit more strenuous), it's a gorgeous and peaceful walk without too much company. And the trail ends at a giant blueberry patch, ripe for the picking.

Shopping

Fine arts and handmade crafts by local artists and artisans that tend toward the cool, not the schlocky. Elizabeth, the owner, has fabulous taste reflected in every object she sells. And stop at Chocolate Springs, the Berkshires' best chocolatier, after. Not much for design, but delicious truffles, macarons, and ice cream.

Essentials

This is a terrific organic market that tends towards the crunchy/hippie mode, but with upscale prices. That said, it's five minutes away and the quality of merchandise is mostly very high. On site bakery makes decent breads and pastries.
