The Spar is one of Tacomas oldest bars and pubs, situated in Old Town Tacoma. It used to be a warehouse, whorehouse, hotel, and now coffee shop, bar and pub. It features live music almost every night (check website) from local or traveling artists. It’s an older crowd feel of locals who enjoy their sunset years being together, dancing and general debauchery (as one in their 50-70’s can do).

Point Defiance Park has an old growth forest, situated on the end of the peninsula. It used to be owned by the US Army as a training area before selling it to the City of Tacoma in the late 1800’s. It is now maintained as a park with a zoo, public beach (Owens Beach), flower gardens, and the occasional festival. The old growth forest is a wonder to wander and view the PNW rain forest without having to drive an hour to Mount Rainier National Forest or the Olympic National Forest.

Situated on the west side of the peninsula, it is a beautiful location to take an afternoon or evening walk. If walking around the entire park, be sure to be prepared for the hills!
