Pubs

A great little place with a lot of history. The local community has fought hard to keep this bar from getting demolished a few years back. Fantastic for live music as well, they have regular tiny concerts on and jam sessions every Tuesday and Thursday night. One of my favourite places to hang out for an evening!

Another good location for live music on Leith Walk, plus a nice selection of whisky (especially my favourite, Lagavulin!)

Takeout Food

My favourite place to go when I'm too lazy to cook. Showing off the great variety of local cuisines Edinburgh has to offer, this little hole in the wall serves authentic Venezuelan food! Always get lots of Pico de Gallo with your order.

Sometimes you just need a kebab, and this place definitely does the best ones.

Food scene

If you're visiting Scotland from abroad you have to try the Indian food. Since we have a large population of people whose origins are in India there are many fantastic Indian restaurants here, and they usually manage to offer a mix of authentic dishes and local variations. Kahani is one of my go-to places.

One of my favourite things to do on a nice Sunday is walk up to Grassmarket and get some scoops of Mary's brilliant ice cream. There is always a line, but don't be put off by that, it moves quickly and it is well worth the wait!
