Sightseeing

You can find better food, but dining here is a historic experience. This place not only fed George Washington but also the Hessen mercenary soldiers who settled here after helping us win the Revolutionary War. Try some of the German specialties served in their honor.

Walk, run, bike, stroll…along the Potomac from DC through Alexandria to Mt. Vernon. Great exercise and even better riverside views.

Worth it just to see a Martha Washington’s prescription! Ok I am a total history geek, and this place is very unique and fascinating.

Rent bikes and make the 10-mile trip, have lunch, and bike back. The ride along the Potomac is worth the trip.

OK, it’s a bit pricey at about $100 for the whole day, but what a wonderful way to get to George Washington’s plantation Mt. Vernon—in under an hour.

A Saturday morning MUST DO. There are so many local delights and surprises here…and great breakfast treats. Don’t miss the Virginia ham biscuits. Get here early in the day though, as vendors usually pack up and leave at about 11 am. No doggies allowed, unfortunately. :-(
