You can’t miss Grouse Mountain. It looms over North Vancouver offers amazing views of Vancouver, Vancouver Island and the Cascade Mountains. You can get a super look of the Capilano Water reserve with the Lions towering at the other end of the reservoir. There is lots to do up there. Summer offers several shows (lumberjack, birds of prey, one can hike, view the grizzly bears in a natural simulated habitat. There is fine dining, coffee and casual restaurant, or a bar. You can sit in or out. In the winter, one can ski, snow shoe or skate and at Christmas you can see Santa and go for a sleigh ride. Alternatively you do the Grouse Grind. There is an access to this very challenging hike from the parking lot. It’s like a huge stair master and is bound to get the heart pumping. So you need to be in good shape to take it on. The fastest hikers can do it in 26 minutes, but that’s crazy, it’s more likely to take you an hour to 1:20 and then you can treat yourself to a beer at the top and take the Skyride down. Lots of Vancouverites do this regularly so there is bound to be lots of folks on the trail

Experience a ride on one of the BC Ferries and take the short hop across Howe Sound to Bowen Island. You won’t need your car on the ferry, just do a walk on (it’s much less expensive) and a 2 minute walk off the ferry you can enjoy the local shops and restaurants. There is a nice big park with lots of grass if you prefer to bring a picnic and a loop trail around a lake you can easily find which provides a nice woodland trail for about 45 min.
