  • This is my second stay at the CA Ponderosa and I love the improvements Spyder has made to the place. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Slab City and I'm looking forward to another stay sometime in the future.

    Dustin2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Spyder's RV is a clean place with good beds and we had a good night of sleep! Very friendly people! It is Slab City so you probably know what to expect when you go there. It can be overwhelming at some points but we can recommend everyone to stay here the night and experience it your self! Go see Easy Jesus and talk to every one who seems open to talk. It wil open your mind

  • Don't even think twice book it!

    Greg2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • An interesting experience. Spyder and Shannon were nice and easy to be around. Camper met our needs. I brought a small toddler mattress for my youngest son. Felt safe. My kids had a good time. Spyder's kids were sweet. Other people staying there seemed nice too. Breakfast was great.

    Ashley2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Spyder's place is great. A family vibe in a transient scene. Off the grid camp with bar, art, breakfast, dinner and feel~good folks journeying through.

    Ria2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Panderosa!! We were like family and we really appreciated the coffee time in the morning around the fire. And the super blueberry pancake that Shanon cooks!!

    Laura2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • This trip was unlike any other. I'm city all the way and so I was very much out of my element. Spyder and Shannon helped make this an amazing experience. Their kindness, hospitality, and genuineness is off the charts! I would love to come back and I'll be staying here.

This is my favorite of the listings. The little barn in the desert! Not to be confused with the little house on the prairie. This ain't no prairie! It's still off-grid living at its best! Twin bunk beds, solar power, and full access to the whole camp and Slab City festivities! Come on down and let us show you what this place is really about! (Tours on request)
Off-grid living. Almost completely self sustained community in the slabs. Solar power. Optional hot shower. Live music almost every night (During the winter)! Salvation mountain! Beautiful desert life in Slab city! East Jesus art garden!
Our neighborhood is very quiet. We have the Internet cafe across the street and the library is about 1/2 mile from us. The range has open mic nights every Saturday. East Jesus is an amazing interactive recycled art garden. And you cant miss the Salvation Mountain. We offer breakfast in the morning.
  • A wonderful place, Spyder and his wife are very welcoming. I enjoyed the guitar night around the fire and my excellent breakfast!

    Florent2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • California Ponderosa is truly a unique place! If you are looking to experience the Slabs, and meet a welcoming community of Slabbers, this is definitely the place to do it!

  • What a fun neat little place to stay?! I highly recommend this place and experience. They were amazing hosts! I’ll be back for sure!

    LeiLani2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in the slabs and enjoyed meeting Spyder and friends. This is possibly the best accommodations in Slab city with access to electricity, hot shower and food (tasty homemade meals were available for purchase at reasonable prices/ $4 for a full breakfast). The toilet outhouse, was better than nothing but not for the squeamish. That said, the alternative to the outhouse would have been squatting behind a bush, so I was very grateful to have access to it. Our beds were comfortable and we slept well except for being conscious of waking each other when we stirred in the bunk beds. We brought our own bedding, snacks and toilet paper- which weren’t necessary but also not a bad idea to bring if you can. Why visit the Slabs? Because it’s like nowhere else I’ve visited. People we met were instantly welcoming and almost everyone waved and said hi. We wandered, got lost, got found, and saw interesting art (and homes) made from repurposed trash. The open mic show at The Range (Saturday nights) was awesome and worth coming for- I just wish we hadn’t waited a bit too long to order the delicious smelling/looking burgers. Apparently you have to jump on the available food while it lasts because once it’s gone, it’s gone. Leave your preconceptions and judgement at home and come with an open heart for the funky, off grid experience.

  • Spyder and his family are excellent hosts, and I had a fun time sitting around the campfire with the other guests. The barn is very cute and cozy, and all of Ponderosa is a work of art. Spyder’s daughter Casey is an excellent tour guide. I highly recommend getting the delicious breakfast.

    Andrea2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Being a first timer in Slab City with only night to stay, Spyder’s place and his campground community treated me well! The red barn is a cute tiny home. This place is truly a one of a kind experience! Hope to come back soon ASAP!

    Kristina2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • I'd never been to Slab City before and I was on my own, but Spyder and his wife made me feel welcome. If you've never been here before, make sure you do research and understand about this unique place before you arrive. This is off the grid. No indoor plumbing and minimal generator-supplied electricity. But there was live music at the Range, friendly people, vivid stars at night, and breakfast in the morning! It's a great experience.

    Marina2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Rodney is a nice, kind person and concerned host. You can get a comfortable experience of the desert, an interesting unique community (better than a dull house in suburbia) and the fascinating nearby Salton Sea .

Mojo's Slab Camp caters to those who prefer to setup their own campsite within an established Slab City community camp. We cater to RVer's, Tenters, Van Dwellers and more who bring their dwellings with them. Short-term and Seasonal campers are welcome.
Mojo's Slab Camp is a safe, clean, drug and drama free campground within Slab City. A family atmosphere provides for campfire sing-alongs, outdoor cookouts and games. We are dog friendly so your non-aggressive pets are welcome too! 420 friendly but nothing harder allowed. In addition to an outdoor cooking area with refrigeration; we provide a clean bathroom & outdoor shower in our guests only area. Mojo's is the place to be!
Mojo’s Slab Camp borders the Coachella Canal with an unhindered beautiful backdrop of the Chocolate Mountains. We are within walking distance to the Range, Lizard Library, East Jesus and Slab Central.
  • Vicky (Mojo) and her buddy (Dave?) are THE BEST HOSTS everrrr! We arrived in our camper can. We were warmly greeted and given a fascinating orientation and introduction to some of the other guests and to Slab City's various attactions. The bathroom is DELUXE...comfortable a nd beautiful... I doubt there is a nicer one anywhere in Slab City. The other guests were warm and friendly....the structures in the common area and the common kitchen were fantastic. When we departed Vicky made sure we knew we were welcome to use the facilities for the rest of the day...and to drop in any time. There are many friendly dogs at this campground...and one grumpy but harmless one. They added greatly to the magic. A safe, wonderful place to stay in Slab City and meet some great people. Highly recommended!

  • Amazing host amazing place

  • Slab city is a really special village. It's a great place to meet people from US and around the world. Vicky's campground is perfectly located to walk to the "east Jesus" outdoor art gallery (10min) and to salvation mountain (20min). Vicky and Dave gave us tips and were great host's.

    Samuel2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to stay for an overview of slap city. Lovely people and definitely a safe place! Probably the only place with a flushing toilet, so luxury ++!! Outer line of the city, means dust level lower

    Nicolas2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Mojo’s is the best. If you’re going to slabs I can’t recommend Mojo’s enough!

Slab City hosts a collection travelers, gypsies, outcasts, and eclectics and my hostel is a reflection of that. Choose to spend the night in one of our multiple RVs or "rough it" beneath the starry desert sky in one of our outdoor rooms.
Choose from different sleeping arrangements, from renovated RV style campers to primitive campsites. We have rooms with single beds open to the sky, walled in with stacked hay bales, two primitive campsites (i.e. bring your own tent or borrow one of ours), and four RV's able to accommodate multiple guests, couples or a group of friends.
Its like a 24/7 ...burning man
  • You need to experience the fascinating world of Slab City! Whitehorse was a great host and made sure we felt welcome at Slab City Hostel!

    Brad2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Really cool place, you can see all sorts of stars at night

    Nicholas2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We were a little skeptical about staying in a hostel at first, but it turned out to be one of the best experiences weve ever had. The hosts were very friendly, invited us to a bonfire, where we got to make friends with some locals, and just overall had the time of our lives! Our stay was brief, but if we get the chance to go again im not sure we’ll ever leave! Definitely a different end of the spectrum from say a hotel or motel, but in our honest opinions it was so much better. Made memories we will never forget.

    Jacob2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • If you plan to stay the night in Slab City, set your accommodations standards very low. But if you plan to stay they night in Slab City, you are not embarking on this adventure for the accommodations. It was a place to stay the night and explore the Slabs. Our host(s) were great and we ran into them, and Angel, at a few parties throughout the night. Outhouse was clean, beds appeared clean, a few of the lights were out inside the trailer, but it was expected we would be indoor camping.

    Nikayla2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The location is in a great little spot close to the ponderosa lodge and the library. The individuals living near the hostile were insightful, generous and friendly. We felt welcomed and enjoyed the facilities. Thank you for hosting. Super chill and welcoming people. Best shower in Slab City!!!! Bring some good weed to share, you’ll make friends😜😜😜😜

  • My 2nd time staying at the Slab City Hostel and both times were excellent! I will be back for sure

    Tom2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • Whitehorse was an excellent host and he did his best to make us spend an good time. He gave us good recommendations where to go to. The living room was a meeting point and the guys hanging around there the whole day long were very relaxed, friendly and sincere to us. If you are prepared to what expects you - namely a rustic accomodation with a pure contact to the desert, you will not be dissappointed at all. Living there is meager but you get everything you need except cold and hot running water. Do not miss Slab City Hostel. Having not been there would be a bad mistake for you. Both of us are mid sixties and just somewhat younger than Whitehorse.

    Ulrike2019-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice stay there in the heart of Slab City. Whitehorse is very kind and helpful. We had a very nice time with residents and travelers there. We slept in a old caravan with a confortable bed and two sofas. I recommand!

The rustic feel of this root'n toot'n cabin is as unique as Slab City itself! This simple abode has a queen size bed. Hot showers also available. Enjoy full use of off-grid camp facilities and live music with chili feed on Tuesdays! Check out local art and music from your very own neighbors here in the slabs! Dont forget to witness the beauty of the desert and the magic of our home on our very own Slab City tour (upon request). Its an experience of a lifetime!
Off-grid living! Solar power. Optional hot shower (if you want one, it gets quite hot here in the summer). Live music almost every night! Salvation mountain, East Jesus' recycle art garden, and so much more!
Tuesday night music and chili feed at the camp !! Nov to March.
  • We absolutely loved the Slabbin’ Cabin and California Ponderosa! Amazing hosts who have built themselves something incredibly special. All the quirks and charms of the Slab City lifestyle with bonuses of adjacent hot showers, in room wifi & electricity. And a king bed! Pretty swank. My meat-eating partner reported some very good biscuits and gravy and also really enjoyed Chili Night. Live acoustic music on Tuesdays around a bonfire and a nice social scene that wraps up at reasonable hours. We would happily return!

    Becky2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • I definitely recommend staying at the Ponderosa

    Sage2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very simple cabin and perfect for my friend's needs. I came to bring me friend staying at the slabs for the winter. We made the right choice to stay here. The breakfast available in the morning is cheap and absolutely yummy. Best experience you can have at the slabs.

    Amanda2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • We ended up crashing over at our friend’s in East Jesus after checking in BUT the cabin was clean with comfortable bed and check in was sweet and welcoming. If you’re venturing to the slabs this is a nice spot to stay.

  • This is a great place to stay, although perhaps not for everyone. What it lacks in modern amenities and cleanliness, it more than makes up for with soul, creativity and attitude. Hospitality was second to none - Sean and his friends are more than welcoming. I was given a tour of the fascinating Slab City by day and night (highly recommended) and had the opportunity to meet many of the interesting and colourful characters when I returned, as Sean’s place is very much a social hub of the area. Fascinating place, and great people!

    Adam2019-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • Sean is a great guy and will help you out with whatever you need!

    Corey2019-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • Sean is like a Slab City scholar. He's great to answer any questions you have about the place, and he's got interesting and insightful things to say about the community. The "patio" area of Wayside is a hangout spot for locals, so I really felt like I got a good feeling of life in Slab City. The locals hanging at Wayside were all very welcoming, and I highly recommend taking a tour with Oz, who's full of history and stories about Slab City, East Jesus, and Salvation Mountain.

    Evan2019-04-17T00:00:00Z

    Shane2019-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • Friendly, safe compound in the last free place. The camper was clean and everyone was very cool and helpful. I feel like I got a true Slab City experience with guidance from people who know it well.

    Erin2019-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • There is no way to put in words how grateful and impressed we were when we arrived and were treated like family right away. We love you guys!

    Marc2019-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Sean has an excellent space, a community hub for a lot of locals, with all kinds of amenities. He's a great host, and his friends showed me around. I felt instantly welcomed & at ease there, and really appreciated my stay in this really special place, Slab City. Can't wait to return!

One block from the Salton Sea, the artsy „Vargas Paradise“ apartment is the perfect spot to explore one of the coolest and most eccentric towns in the United States. Bombay Beach is a photographers and filmmakers dream. It has the feeling of a Mad Max movie set combined with the Americana vibe of the 1960s and 1970s. The perfect spot to write that next chapter of your new book or edit your documentary. A great base from which to explore sites such as Salvation Mountain, East Jesus and Slab City.
Dear guests! Imperial County as well as Riverside County have issued on March 19th travel restrictions and Bombay Beach is an extremely vulnerable place. The majority of people are senior citizen, have health issues and many are too poor to afford basic health care. To protect our guests and the community we closed down our AirBnB until April 30th. After this date we changed to a minimum stay from 2 nights onwards closed Mondays and Tuesdays, until the crises last, to protect our guests and our local cleaning staff. If you want to stay longer than 5 nights, please contact us. We are very sad about this, because we love hosting people, and we as well as our local staff depends on the income. But no money and no meeting is worth endangering people. We hope for your understanding and would be pleased to welcome you as our guests in the future. The „Vargas Paradise“ apartment is a nod to the former owner of the house. He loved beautiful women and left a whole collection of the famous „Vargas Girls“ from the Playboy of sixties plus his own erotic paintings in his garage. Framed in gold they turn the small apartment at the back of the house into a kitschy art space. Set on a quarter acre yard the bright orange house features a large yard, a nice patio in the backyard on the right side of the house for you. The porch at the front of the house belongs to our other apartment "Bombay Beach Authentic House". - On-site parking for one car. - PLEASE NOTE: The kitchenette is equipped with: Electric water kettle, french press for coffee, Toaster, fridge, mini desk-top oven, one electric pan. But no microwave or stove. Normally there is also coffee, tea, sugar, oil, salt and pepper. If you love cooking, please consider renting our other apartment "Bombay Beach Authentic House", which has a full kitchen with a stove.
Throughout town and on the beach the Bombay Beach ruins tell stories of the towns past as a prosperous fishing and partying mecca. And while on first view the place might look rundown it is bustling with life: From the live music and unplanned parties in the famous Ski Inn, to its growing eccentric art scene, an opera house, galleries and lots of public art installations on the beach and throughout town, Bombay Beach is a place to make new friends and get away from it all. A great base from which to explore sites such as Salvation Mountain, East Jesus and Slab City, take endless walks on the beach, experience the marvelous sunsets the Salton Sea is famous for and go birdwatching in one of Americas prime birding locations.
  • Sparkling clean. Convenient amenities. There's a kitchenette providing all the essential things for cooking. Room is stylish. Community at Bombay beach is interesting. A lot of cool things, art installations, street arts to see in the neighborhood. It's hard to find a place as good as Uwe's around the Salton Sea. It might be the best airbnb in this area.

    Jiewen2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • Bombay Beach is pretty depressed. That's a major part of the attraction. Accept that and you're home free. His place is very well kept. If you can handle the reality it is a very interesting place.

    Dwayne2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I truly enjoyed ourselves in Bombay Beach. There is so much to do and see that really the best way to experience it is by spending the night. Some of them light up! Vargas’ paradise is in a great location, just a short walk from all the art exhibits and from the Ski Inn. The space is just what we needed and more. Uwe and Frauke are excellent hosts and made our stay extra special. Thank you so much again for the hospitality!

    Pedro2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location next to the Salton Sea, cool art instillations and nice desert views. Had a lovely visit.

  • A great little apartment in a very interesting little town. I was perfectly happy with every aspect of staying at Uwe's place. It's roomy, bright, and well kept. Bombay Beach isn't the usual sort of tourist destination and this apartment fits that tone well - the decorations are so charmingly over-the-top and kitschy that no one over the age of 12 could find them titillating, let alone offensive. Uwe and his team were quick to communicate and a great source of useful information. I had a nice chat with Neil, who was looking after the property while I was there. Very highly recommended.

  • Very accurate description in the listing. Wonderful camp with wonderful people. I can't say enough good things about the people at Spider's camp. I plan to come back soon with my 6 years old soon. She is going to love it. Due to some health issues I needed the RV to have a flushing toilet and running water so this was perfect for me. Breakfast options are cheap and better than most breakfast restaurants. The coffee in the morning was great.

Spyder and everyone are so nice - I wasn’t sure what to expect but I hung around in their area for the evening, having drinks, talking, and just generally enjoying getting to know people at a stop on my road trip. Make sure to bring cash - if you forget to BYOB you can get some from them, and you can also get breakfast the next morning if you like. This is also a dog lover’s paradise. They have tons of friendly dogs all over!!!! It was a great rustic space, and I want to come back and visit again.

    Lori2019-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • Spyder was very welcoming, he showed me around and made me feel at home right away.

    Richard2019-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • What a place. I had never even heard of Slab City until the morning I booked my Airbnb. I’m very happy I ended up staying with Spyder! I heard from more than one person while I was out there that “The Ponderosa” is THE place to stay at in Slab City if you go, and after familiarizing myself with the place, they were absolutely right. Spyder has a great camp set up and it’s a really cool place to hang out. He was very hospitable and accommodating. The RV I stayed in was very comfortable and clean. Slab City is just a really cool, unique, off the wall, off the grid kind of place. Bring plenty of water! You’ll have a great time. I’ll be back again.

One block from the Salton Sea, this authentic house is the perfect spot to explore one of the coolest and most eccentric towns in the United States. Bombay Beach is a photographer’s and filmmaker’s dream. It has the feeling of a Mad Max movie set combined with the Americana vibe of the 1960s and 1970s. The perfect spot to write that next chapter of your new book or edit your documentary. A great base from which to explore sites such as Salvation Mountain, East Jesus and Slab City.
The house was tentatively renovated with the idea to keep the original Americana vibe of the 60s/70s when Bombay Beach was a fishing, boat racing and partying hotspot. Most of the original furniture and decoration was preserved, from the kitschy kitchen wallpaper and plastic tiles, the wood-paneled living room with the fossil-decorated fire place and brown-yellow sofa to the painted eagle and busty cowgirl watch – it just feels like living in a movie set. Set on a quarter acre yard the bright orange house features a large shaded terrace with a coal fired grill build from an old water tank. On-site parking possible.
Throughout town and on the beach the Bombay Beach ruins tell stories of the towns past as a prosperous fishing and partying mecca. And while on first view the place might look rundown it is bustling with life: From the live music and unplanned parties in the Ski Inn, to its growing eccentric art scene, an opera house, galleries and lots of public art installations on the beach and throughout town, Bombay Beach is a place to make new friends and get away from it all. A great base from which to explore sites such as Salvation Mountain, East Jesus and Slab City, the Music Festivals in Indio (Coachella, Stagecoach), take endless walks on the beach, experience the marvelous sunsets the Salton Sea is famous for and go birdwatching in one of Americas prime birding locations.
  • Frauke and Uwe are exceptional hosts! Communication was prompt and easy. Check in was smooth. The space was spotless even after a big storm. They are knowledgeable about the area. Incredibly friendly and happy to help. Bombay beach is such a unique destination and their home more than compliments the overall experience.

  • Desert Oasis at Bombay beach.

  • This is the perfect place from which to explore Bombay Beach and the east side of the Salton Sea. The house feel like a nice rustic cabin with heavy old comfortable furniture/ Mattresses were new memory foam and super comfy. The kitchen was great for cooking and the west-facing porch is amazing for sitting, drinking coffee, watching the sunset. I would absolutely rent this space again.

Bombay Beach style at its finest. “They paint the houses these ridiculous colors,” said Commander Wacko, head of the American Legion, about the artists coming to Bombay Beach lately, to a reporter for The Guardian newspaper. We certainly do, Commander...We most certainly do. Featuring photographs by the great Robert Stivers. One master bedroom for a couple, two tiny rooms with single beds. One bathroom. 3 wall AC’s. Space heaters.
  • In my humble opinion, the Salton Sea is one of the most unique and peaceful places in the US. Please do your research on the area to fully appreciate it. Being a sea in the middle of the desert, it was a popular tourist destination in the 50’s and 60’s but due to environmental conditions homeowners and vacationers fled the area. Today the Salton sea is a rare tribute to the past. Bombay beach, where the property is located, is a (mostly) deserted town with streets upon streets of mid century homes and structures. The town is quiet and post apocalyptic but not entirely abandoned. The sea is beautiful and serene yet eerily silent. Tao’s home is an amazing way to experience this very special area. You will feel like you walked into a time capsule from the 1960’s. He’s preserved the charm of this little home impeccably while enhancing the property with some amazing art features. You will be just steps away from the staggering sea and the rooftop seating area is a wonderful surprise. For anyone who is into urban x or perhaps just just looking to get off the grid for a bit, this property is quirky and charming in the best way possible. The history buff in me highly recommends :)

  • Highly recommend any of Taos air bnbs if you are looking for a creative trip away!

    Kitty2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • I’ve visited Bombay beach/Salton sea numerous times but actually the first time staying in the midst of the community which is the best way to experience it. Mornings & evenings are both uniquely beautiful out there. The Zig Zag house was great and better than expected. Will definitely stay there again and highly recommend

    Eric2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great stay at the Zig Zag! Tao was super responsive to a blown fuse and had it repaired within an hour. The sunset was stunning, so DO NOT miss it! Check it out from the roof of the Zig Zag and then head down to the beach to see the sea swallow the sun! Will definitely come back!

    Laura2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • We rented both zig zag and the institute and were very happy with the spaces, which are right across the street from each other! Bombay Beach is on an intersection of existence, not quite of this world or the next. It is extreme, beautiful, strange and at times uncomfortable- though if you find yourself available to lean in to the occasional discomfort (weather related or otherwise), you will find the rewards to be great. Do yourself a favor and stay more than one night, find art to admire, walk the beach, check out slab city, and meet other artists, locals and adventure seekers at the Ski Inn. Check the weather before you go and come prepared with provisions! Tao has great suggestions on what to check out (be careful not to accidentally wander onto someone’s yard as art installations and quirky private property can look similar) and is a very responsive and gracious host! You are sure to have a unique experience.

    Melody2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Very unique art community stay

    Kimaya2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We have been to Bombay Beach numerous times as we love to come out and visit the local people that we have become friends with. The ZigZag is in a great location that is literally directly across the street from the Salton Sea. Everyone in this little town is very nice and friendly and every chance we get, we love to come stay at Tao's as he has great communication and is a very friendly guy.

    Michelle2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • The zigzag house is so quirky and fun! We loved sitting on the rooftop to view the sunset and check out the installation and lights at night. There are so many places and things to explore in the neighborhood, and checking out the Salton Sea was so fun as the property is pretty much right in front of it. The place itself is cozy and homey, with so many funky touches added to the home. Definitely read through the books on the coffee table, that was one of our favorite parts. The front deck is the perfect spot to hang out and watch the sunset at night. We really enjoyed walking around the neighborhood and definitely wish we could have stayed longer. Slab City is a short drive from the property and we definitely recommend going out there if you can. This place is truly one of a kind and would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in a unique space full of art and inspiration!

The Bombay Beach Institute of Particle Physics, Metaphysics, & International Relations. An epicenter of the Bombay Beach Biennale, featuring photo exhibits, elegant and lush gardens, and comfortable air conditioned interior spaces. Great for events, shoots, or simply as a base to explore and enjoy the renaissance happening in the area. ART IN THE INSTITUTE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN OR PEOPLE OFFENDED BY NUDITY OR OTHER PROVOCATIVE IMAGERY.

  • Tao's place was fantastic! We had a few hiccups while getting settled, but even at a late hour, Tao was incredibly responsive and helped correct things immediately. The place is not just a stay, it's an experience. My only regret is that we didn't get to stay longer. This place and the town around it needs far more than one night to fully experience.

  • A delightful stay at the Institute! Only downside was that we only stayed one night. Didn't know much about Bombay beach - don't arrive late and hungry! - and enjoyed taking in all of the artwork. The crowd at Ski Inn was very good natured, and the sunrise along the water is an image I don't think I'll ever forget. Hope to return soon. Thank you Tao for the hospitality and the beautiful space! Very inspiring :)

    Gloria2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The Institution is an absolute must-see. The entire property is covered with incredible and somewhat bizarre art that, once you see, you can't imagine not experiencing before. The house is full of fantastic art as well ("Spiked" was my favorite). Not only is the property incredible, but the town itself is full of unique art pieces and the nicest human beings I've ever encountered. If you go, you must visit the Ski Inn to say hi to Steve, as well as the American Legion - Tommy is great! I definitely plan to visit again!

    Kyla2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Hands down most bizarre and magical Airbnb sojourn of my life. Staying here or the ZigZag house across the street (I’ve now stayed in both) are the only way to see Bombay Beach. Bring soap! ❤️

    Emily2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Stunningly weird place to stay that is very appropriate for the location. The actual amenities are pretty pedestrian but that's not why you are staying here! Be surrounded by art and good vibes!

    Adam2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing place in an amazing place. I went to enjoy the uniqueness of Bombay Beach and got every bit. This is not the Hilton. If that is what you want go elsewhere. This is a great taste of the art and ecology of the Salton Sea. The yard, the galleries, the housing are an outstanding experience. Go to the Ski Inn for great food and talk. Don't visit without walking the town and the shore.

  • I stayed at Gloria's place during my emergency medicine rotation at the nearby hospital for 2 weeks during the summer heat. Her space is sparkling clean, easily accessible, and in a quiet location. After each shift, I looked forward to going back to my own comfortable, private, and air-conditioned room to relax until my following shift. Moreover, Gloria was a wonderful and approachable host. If I return to Brawley, I will definitely be staying with her again!

A kitsch haven in what can only be described as the coolest, weirdest town in America. 5 blocks from the Salton Sea, on the desert side of Bombay. This former family home is complete with everything you might need for exploring the Salton Sea and Imperial Valley, Salvation Mountain and Slab City. The town, the house and the sea are a photographer's dream. This is a great base from which to explore eccentric nearby sites such as Salvation Mountain and Slab City.Made up of a square mile grid of paved streets, the majority of the residents live in eclectic mobile homes. There is a small corner market, 2 bars, bait shop, volunteer fire station, an unmarked motel, and the flooded ruins of a once prosperous fishing mecca.Without a gas station, and the nearest one 20 miles away, most people rely on electrical golf carts to get around town. The house is completely air-conditioned throughout and has a fun, Americana vibe, filled with metal-printed prints by the owner, a photographer. The house features wood-paneling throughout, an open-plan living area, with comfy sofa-bed and TV. Dining area and kitchen, with TV. Office space with two desks. Cosy bedroom and covered outdoor living space. lots of closet space throughout. Set in a big lot, completely enclosed all-around and very secure. Lots of on-site parking and room for pets. A unique space in a unique place! Please contact us with any questions at all. NB: DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE PECULIARITY OR REMOTENESS OF BOMBAY BEACH..
  • This place is absolutely adorable and unique, in Salton Sea fashion. The place was clean, had a fridge and a microwave and was in walking distance of the beach, the VFW post and the Ski Inn. Thank you for another wonderful stay in Bombay Beach.

    Joshua2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Bombay Beach House is the perfect retro bungaloo for a stay in Bombay Beach. It has a throwback charm with more space than you expect from the photos. It's location is nice because it's quieter and away from the sea and activity (but still just a 4 block walk to the water). The listing may say 1 bed, but there are actually 2! Tao is a great host that communicated well and even has an amazing guide to experience all the incredible art installations and sites around town. I highly recommend staying here and following Tao's wonderful guide.

    Bradford2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Tao's vintage house in Bombay Beach is absolutely stunning. We had the most wonderful time staying there and he was super friendly and responsive. Would highly recommend staying here and exploring what Bombay Beach has to offer. I'll be going back for sure!

  • Tao's place is by far the best air bnb experience I've had. I was not specificially looking for this destination, but it came up while browsing for other options in the Palm Springs area. I was so intrigued by Tao's description of the location that I booked a stay there just to see it for myself. Tao's place is not only wonderful for the space he provides, which is secure and clean, but for the fascinating setting it's in. I would recommend anyone considering coming here to google a brief history of the Salton Sea and Bombay Beach to fully appreciate the stories it has to tell in the present day. This area is so thought provoking it will certainly have a lasting influence on me. It is an inhabited ghost town. It is a picture of desolation that still has a pulse of human resilience. I struggled to find exactly the right word to describe Bombay Beach, but in the end the word is simply "poetic." The visual displays of repurposed relics and other creative displays that abound are amazing when seeing them surrounded at the same time by abandoned and decaying structures. Thank you Tao for such a one of a kind and eye opening experience.

    Virginia2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Taos place was very different and unique. Kind of took you back in time. Loved the locals at Ski Inn we definitely put a dollar on the ceiling. Bombay is like no place we’ve ever stayed before, and if you go there stay at one of Taos place and you must stop at salvation mountain!

  • This place is an awesome find! The place is much nicer in person than it looks in photos and is also super spacious. The place was well stocked with extra blankets, dishes, and essentials and is very well maintained; you could tell the place had been professionally cleaned. There are 3 bathrooms which were very convenient for us because we had a family of 6, and we all slept very comfortably. There's a pool in the back which is nice, and it's also a nice large backyard to just hang out in. Bob and I met briefly in person and he was super friendly, accomodating, and responsive to all of my messages. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone staying in the area that is looking for a decently large and comfortable Airbnb. Thanks Bob!

  • The pourcupine lodge was homey, quite, and spacious. The stocked kitchen is a God - send if you are bringing a lot of food (which I recommend, outside of the cafe on the resort options are scarce out there in the desert). • Quiet and comfortable. The hosts (mother who lives there and son who handles the listing and check in) are extremely friendly and quick to reply.

  • Gloria's space was great! Perrfect location, central to everything I needed. As a contract nurse, I was looking for a longer term stay and she was not only quick to respond but was happy to help. The home is clean, well maintained and quiet as can be, even for someone who works nights. Highly recommend!

  • The house of Mrs. Glory is the cleanest of all the airbnb in what I have stayed. The lady is very kind and attentive. A very nice person and a place that I recommend a lot.
