Perfect as a writers retreat, artists retreat or every other kind of retreat. We look forward to welcoming you here!
The Barn is set back from the main house with a private balcony facing the orchard. Surrounded by glorious gardens with views of Sleeping Beauty. You will find The Barn has everything you need for a comfortable stay. It is insulated and has two heaters, electric blanket and extra blankets for cold winter nights. It has a fully equipped kitchen including microwave, stovetop, small oven, small fridge and crockery. You may like to pick some greens from the garden and we provide a few kitchen staples including coffee, tea and olive oil and some condiments. Note we do not provide perishable items such as butter and milk, so please bring your own. It has a private bathroom with a claw foot bath and luxurious shower. A private bedroom with a king bed and mezzanine bedroom with a queen bed overlooking the orchard and mountains. We are a pet friendly property. We are 3.5km from Huonville, 40min from Hobart and only 30 min away from the beautiful Southwest National Park. We are less than 1km from the river and there is plenty to do in Huon Valley. Ask us about local hikes, drives, wineries, galleries, kayaking, markets, tourist attractions and other places of interest! We are passionate about exploring and keen to help you make the most of your visit to the Huon Valley! We have many kayaks and are happy to take people kayaking if we can. We also have plenty of camping/hiking and outdoor baby gear and we would be happy to help with shuttles/planning/gear for long hiking/kayaking/mountain biking trips in the area, please enquire if interested.
  • Such a cute place, they have done up the barn with some lovely touches. The hosts were lovely and greeted us when we arrived. There were lots of apples on the tree and we were told we could have as many as we like... Eating apple pie tonight!!!

  • Rustic old shed renovated tastefully into beautiful roomy and cozy accommodation. Comfortable king bed had us sleeping like logs. Lovely verandah looking over the apple and pear orchard. Host’s communication was excellent. We’d love to stay again next time we’re in the area.

  • This place was gorgeous! Beautiful barn that’s both roomy and cosy feeling, just like the photos only better. Adjacent to the house, but definitely private. We bumped into Shannon and Dan - they are lovely people. Communication was excellent. The veranda faces away from the prevailing wind so even in gusty conditions we were perfectly comfy in the sun outside, sheltered in amongst the apples! We loved our stay, and would 100% rebook if we are down that way again. Just what an AirBnb should be!!!!!

  • This is one of the coziest places I've ever stayed! The couch is like a cloud on earth! I love the old school heater which works a treat to keep you very toasty and creates a snuggly atmosphere! Way better than expected, the pictures really don't do this little gem justice! I was absolutely thrilled when I opened the door to see how gorgeous it really was. Beautifully decorated. Love the kitchen and bathroom. I would have loved to have stayed longer to soak up all it's amazingness. Great location too! Really friendly, accommodating hosts! A+ all round :)

    Cassie2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely 3 nights staying at the barn. The location is great for exploring the huon and hobart and surrounds. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck overlooking the private orchard of an afternoon after a day of exploring.

    Emma2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • We would definitely recommend Shannon & Daniel’s barn to anyone. It’s small from the outside but so spacious inside. We spent our evening cooking dinner and doing a jigsaw puzzle that was provided. Shannon is a wonderful host, she’s very friendly, welcoming and has a lot of knowledge about local attractions and things to do. We will definitely stay here again. Thank you!

  • This was a magical place to stay. Julie’s home is stunning - you will feel like you’re in the lap of luxury, with every detail attended to. Then the property itself is stunning - a creative’s dream. There are so many places to wander, to sit and dream, to watch and listen to the countryside. The animals are so cute - I spent so much time with the highland cows; it was wonderful. Three nights were not enough. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat.

    Clarisa2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Julie's spa suite was amazing and had everything we needed. The setting and her beautiful animals was enough but there were plenty of thoughtful touches that made our stay particularly memorable. We were able to use the bbq and hottub as we wished and went on the ATV farm tour which was a highlight of our trip. It is clear that Julie works incredibly hard proven by her amazing home and farm. We were also supplied with breakfast items and Julie even made us breakfast on our first morning. She also has two very sweet and welcoming pooches. Would 100% recommend. Thank you!

    Faye2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Julie’s place is a lovely spot to have a weekend (or longer!) getaway. It is set on an incredible property that we got to see on the farm tour, and enjoy through the enormous bedroom window. Like everyone says, the cows are definitely a highlight, and brushing them will remain a high point of our trip. The suite itself is lovely, with lots of thoughtful touches - including a delicious homemade breakfast parfait and fresh sourdough bread.

    Stephanie2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Julie was such a great host! Place was way beyond what i expected! The place was very spacious and clean. Also not forgetting the delicious parfait made by Julie! Would definitely choose this place if i’m coming back to Tasmania!

  • Gilles's place in the Huon Valley is a beautiful retreat. Quiet and peaceful location with a fabulous view overlooking the valley. All amenities were first class, clean and comfortable. We put the chef's kitchen to good use, preparing meals with the local ingredients we sourced as we explored the region. The Taste of the Huon Food Festival was on while we stayed, and that was excellent. You must visit Harvest & Light cafe, picklery and gallery in Geeveston if you get a chance for superb tasting plates of their housemate goods. Highly recommend Gilles's place as a great stay in the Huon Valley.

Huon Valley House is a place where you can unwind in comfort. We aim high; it’s a spacious, stylish space, with comfortable beds and gorgeous views from every window. And best of all, it’s private but central to everything the Valley has to offer, and an easy drive to Hobart and other Southern Tasmania destinations. Outside is an acre of lawn and garden, birds and wildlife, plenty of parking and large decks with views in all directions. It’s the perfect luxurious base to explore the south-west.
The open-plan living includes two dining and seating areas, along with a comfortable fold-out-couch. The kitchen is fully equipped. There’s free high-speed WIFI and Netflix, and warm passive solar design is backed up with electric heating and air conditioning. Each of the four bedrooms has its own nook in the house, and the master includes an ensuite and dressing room along with its own deck. The main bathroom includes a separate bath, and the screenless showers feature rain shower heads. Internal sound-proofing and separate spaces help keep the peace for larger groups. High quality, professionally cleaned linen and ethical bathroom products are all included. We subscribe to Tasmania’s flagship arts and lifestyle magazines: ‘40 Degrees South,’ ‘Island Magazine’ and ‘Tasmanian Life,’ with plenty of back-issues to browse. There are board games, books and puzzles, toys for the kids, a piano. There’s even a traditional analogue radio (check out the quirky Huon FM at 95.3). There’s also a high chair and port-a-cot, if you’re travelling with an infant.
If you’re looking here you probably already know what an incredible destination the Huon Valley region is. A lush, rural setting – just half an hour from central Hobart – you’ll find awarded wineries and cider houses, ambitious hikes and gentle river cruises, intimate beaches and a thriving café culture. Close by is the renowned Summer Kitchen Bakery, selling organic wood-fired sourdough breads plus pastries and excellent coffee. Ranelagh General Store offers gourmet burgers, fries and calamari, as well as great iced coffees. Home Hill Winery is also just up the road at Ranelagh, offering much-awarded wines and gourmet meals. You can also visit Hartzview, Elsewhere, Panorama and St Imre vineyards in the Huon Valley. Huon Jet Boats are based at nearby Huonville, and they also provide paddle boat and kayak hire. For the family, a short walk to the Huon Valley Caravan Park and you can walk through the apple orchards, watch the pigs being fed, hand-feed the chickens, sheep and goats, watch the cows being milked and cheese making demonstrations. Across the river at Glen Huon is the Pelican Point alpaca farm, which also welcomes visitors. The Huonville outdoor heated public pool is also a hidden gem with 50 metre pool, undercover seating and plenty of lawn to relax on. Other regional attractions include the Tahune Airwalk and nearby Eagle Hanglider flying fox. On the way to Tahune, you can stop at Geeveston for lunch and check out the Forest and Heritage Centre. Masaaki's is a must for sushi lovers. Further south are Hastings Caves and thermal pool, and the historic Ida Bay Railway. The Wooden Boat Centre is located in the quaint village of Franklin, along with Village Antiques. Franklin is just 10 minutes from Ranelagh and provides excellent access to the Huon River waterfront. Try Franklin Marine for fishing supplies and advice. At picturesque Cygnet you'll find plenty of fine local food, galleries, arts and crafts, and second-hand stores. Farm gate sales are available from the nearby Nicholls Rivulet Organic Farm. To relax, try Huon Natural Healthcare for reflexology, massage therapies and herbal medicine. Also in the Huon is Willie Smiths Organic Apple Cider, the largest organic apple orchard in Australia and the makers of Willie Smiths Organic Apple Cider and Stonehouse Craft Cider. You can visit them at The Apple Shed museum, cider house and cafe on the Huon Highway. Another cider house and cafe is Frank's at Franklin, and cellar door sales are available from Pagan Cider at Cygnet. For whisky lovers, try premium Tasmanian whiskies at the Lark Distillery on Davey Street in Hobart, or the Nant Whisky Bar at Salamanca. A quick 3 km drive from the house and you are in the Huonville township with access to supermarkets including Woolworths and IGA, petrol stations (including a 24 hour convenience store), Australia Post, banks, pharmacy, bakery, cafes, restaurants etc, as well as a local chocolatier.

SILVER CREEK FARM - Nestled in valley. Gorgeous, retro comfort. Self contained cottage. Private and quiet with large bedroom- queen bed, Persian rugs, French doors - relax on sunny northern deck. New eat in kitchen, sitting area, bathroom, garden-lovely views of garden, forest and paddocks. Parking to door. Adjacent to 1890's farmhouse. WiFi Walk (25 min) or drive (5 min) Cygnet. 50min to Hobart. Breakfast supplied - farm fresh eggs, milk, cereal, home baked sourdough, jam, coffee teas .
If you love retro- this is the place for you. Comfortable with vintage flair, the space is unique and spotlessly clean . Decorated with our finds from near and far. You can lounge about in your freshly laundered dressing gowns or explore the property under the watchful eyes of the sheep or even native hens. Robert and I chose to live here because it's just so beautiful. We really want to share it with as many people as possible. Perfectly located -close to Cygnet but tucked away amidst the hills. Feels miles from anywhere.Super quiet but especially at night. Great for animal spotting and stargazing. The guest accommodation is connected to the main house via a covered breezeway. Through the private entrance there are five areas: 1. The large vintage styled queen sized bedroom has plenty of atmosphere with a lead light window, wooden floors and Persian rugs. The french doors lead onto a wide north facing deck. Wall heaters and electric blankets ensure you will feel cosy. You can listen to vinyls on the lovely old HMV record player or simply relax , enjoying the birdsong. A TV is available, just ask us and we will install for you. 2. The living/dining/kitchen area continues the comfy retro styling. The newly appointed kitchen has a stove top, microwave and fridge. Fully equipped with lots of pots, pans, crockery and tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast supplies- cereals, milk, butter or marg, oil, vinegar, fruit, bread, eggs, tea/coffee/jam/etc. Retro dining table and chairs provide a cosy eating nook. Sit in the armchairs by the french doors or relax on the deck .You can see pasture, forest and the hills in the distance. There are plenty of books in the vintage cupboard by the arm chairs. You might even want to sketch the scene using the art supplies . 3. Bathroom-fully tiled with shower. Shampoo/conditioner/soap/t-paper/tissues provided. Towels/hairdryer/first aid kit in cupboard. Ceiling heat lamp/fan extractor. 4. North facing deck accessible via french doors from bedroom and kitchen. There's a generous sized table with chairs for outdoor dining . Armchairs provide a comfy spot for relaxing .Great vantage point for animal spotting ( torch provided) . A portable Weber BBQ is located just off the deck. Fire pit available in adjacent garden (dependent on seasonal fire permits). 5. The great outdoors! There are seats/ benches dotted around the property. By the dam, there's a picnic table with seats. It's really nice to really feel immersed in the environment. We're in the process of rehabilitating the winter creek beds. This involves removing the blackberries and other weeds, replacing them with native species. This will greatly improve the available habitat for native animals both small and large. There are pademelons, quolls, devils and bandicoots as well as native hens ,masked lapwings and ducks. Note: -No smoking - Rainwater tanks only- water is precious so please use in moderation - Compost bin under sink for fruit/veggies. - Fire blanket(kitchen) and extinguisher(entranceway) - large line for clothes drying - please use laundromat in main street of Cygnet for washing clothes . - Access to oven in main house if required( just let us know in advance and we can arrange) - Picnic rugs/torches/umbrellas /esky/thermos/beach towels located in outdoor cupboard at entrance - Privacy of guests respected. However if you would like to sit and read by our slow combustion fire in main house or share a cuppa feel free to come in. - The walk in to Cygnet is really lovely, especially the length of Olbrichs road ,winding past pastures with cattle, sheep and horses. If you want to walk only one way, let us know in advance and we can help out. Although only a short drive to town, the feeling is one of seclusion , with stunning views and no close neighbours.
Cygnet is a very pretty and and vibrant town in the Huon Valley about 45mins drive from Hobart. Cafes in Cygnet, Franklin, Huonville and Woodbridge are great places to relax and enjoy the slower pace of life down here. Newly opened Port Cygnet Cannery serves fantastic food , sourced locally. Local produce is available in the town centre as well as access to well stocked supermarkets and butchers. Seasonal fruit and vegetables can also be found at roadside stalls throughout the valley. We have a fortnightly market ( Ist and 3rd Sundays)here in Cygnet featuring arts and crafts made by local artists produce sold by local farmers. There are also regular markets nearby towns - we can let you know where they are and when they're on. Usually quiet, Cygnet really buzzes during the Folk Festival each January.Great performers in all he venues around town and plenty of music outdoors in the parks and on the street too. We are happy to help with transport if you don't want to drive , walk or cycle in to town. If you've booked in for a Fat Pig Farm feast we can easily take you there and collect you afterwards- it's only just over the hill from us.Let us know when you're booking and we will make sure we're available. There are beautiful beaches and river front reserves only minutes away from Silver Creek Farm. The Huon river is over the hill and Drip Beach in Lymington is so peaceful. Burton's Reserve on the waterfront at Cygnet is a great spot for sitting and watching the birds then taking a gentle stroll on the well maintained path around the bay to the yacht club. Randalls Bay and Mickey's Beach are are short drive away and well worth a visit. There are walking tracks there, both beachside and up through pasture . The view from the top of the hill is really lovely. Perhaps you would prefer to spend most of your time here on the farm soaking up the atmosphere. If you want to feed our sheep they'll be so happy- they love being hand fed! Your visit might even coincide with a film screening at the Franklin Palais -feel like a local paying your $5 entry fee ,sitting up the back enjoying the movie in the beautifully maintained old venue.
  • We highly recommend Fiona and Richard place to any and every one. What an amazing place. We loved the decor, very well equipped kitchen and bathroom, amazingly clean and really comfortable. So many homely touches with the added bonus of fresh baked bread, and biscuits. Both Fiona and Richard were welcoming and friendly, nothing was a bother. The chickens were also friendly. Location was very convenient for us going to bruney island. We loved our stay and again thankyou. 10 out of 10 for value, comfort and friendliness. Do not hesitate to stay here as we will again.

  • Robert and Fiona’s little retro hideaway was perfect to get away from it all yet so close to the town of Cygnet which surprised us with plenty of fun places to shop and eat. Our hosts went to a lot of trouble to ensure we had all we needed and were helpful, thoughtful and discreet. We’d highly recommend their accommodation for anybody wanting a rural setting with no distractions other than the chickens and the abundant wildlife. Fantastic little outlook overlooking a pretty garden and a sunny deck to sit out on and enjoy a quiet drink. Thank you Robert and Fiona!

  • Very welcoming, with the personal touch. Home grown/made produce a feature. Ideal isolation from the 'bustle' but very close to the iconic Cygnet township. Perfect combination with a lunch at Fat Pig Farm, making for a memorable visit to the South-East.

  • Really nice guest house with well-equipped kitchenette. Read many comments about the sunset view, its a pity that we had no chance to experience it as we arrived late and left early the next day. Host is really helpful, got reminded that I left something important behind and it was easy to retrieve it back. Highly recommend staying there if you are looking for accommodation near Hobart.

    Alison2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • What a gem of a find! We absolutely loved Ruth and Phillip’s cottage. We have stayed in many Airbnb’s and we think this place ranks pretty high on our list. The cottage is clean, cosy (with a slow combustion wood heater) and has everything you could want for a luxurious stay. The designs elements are thoughtful and smart. The location is perfect for those wishing to explore the Huon Valley and Bruny Island (with a car). Ruth and Phillip were warm and friendly hosts. Thank you so much for sharing your little piece of paradise with us!

    Jane2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • I particularly appreciated the Retreat's idyllic location. The view from each window was to tree-lined hills and, from the kitchen window, to an old apple tree. Ruth provided excellent information on local wildlife and short walks. The Retreat itself is beautifully presented, light-filled, spacious and warm. Highly recommended if you're after a place to rest and re-energise or to work in tranquillity.

    Sonja2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Ruth and Phillip's place is an absolute dream. The location is great, set in the hills of the Huon Valley, and a short drive to the small town of Cygnet. It is also only a 20 minute drive to the Bruny Island Ferry port. My partner and I were looking for a place to getaway and relax, and this place certainly delivered. The house itself is beautifully designed, extremely comfortable, with all the amenities you could possibly need. We spent the evenings cooking on the outdoor fire, listening to the birds and looking out for passing Pademelons and once it got dark, snuggled up by the indoor fire. I can't recommend this place enough. We will definitely be returning for another relaxing getaway!

    Alice2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful outlook, quiet, clean, stylish decor, thoughtful finishing touches and helpful hosts - definitely recommend!

    Lauren2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • As described. The Retreat is lovely get away for couples. We had a last minute booking, Ruth could not have been more accommodating. Was a perfect mid road trip destination for us.

    Alex2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing cottage for that getaway just to chill and relax! Very clean and well set up, even yummy breakfast provisions. Very comfy bed! Well done Ruth and Phillip!

    Christine2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Ruth and Philip's place is a treat. Quiet and secluded, in a beautiful setting overlooking farmland and forest. Gorgeously furnished. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable king-size bed with crisp white linen, and great bathroom (especially the shower!). Rugs and cushions and potbelly stove keep the space snug when the sun goes down. Lots of thoughtful touches, including snacks! We had a wallaby visitor and loved the miniature ponies in the field over the road. Cygnet is a pretty village with great cafes and very friendly locals. Dinner at the Thai eatery down the road was special. Highly recommend. Thank you Ruth and Philip - we had a lovely time.

Only a kilometre away from all the conveniences of Huonville, the ‘capital’ of this famed apple, cherry and berry growing region, a mere 5, 10 or 15 minutes away from the villages of Ranelagh, Franklin and Cygnet, and a vast array of local wineries, quality food producers, providores, local bakeries, cafes, restaurants and farmers markets. Hobart, Australias smallest capital city (with some disproportionately big attractions), is a 35 minute drive away (the airport is approximately 50 to 60 minutes)
  • This absolutely exquisite barn is beautiful beyond words. It is as sophisticated as it is functional, as relaxing as it is stimulating. A heavenly location, kind and classy hosts, five stars finishes and special touches throughout, and an unforgettable few days to treasure. I came to visit on my own and felt completely embraced by the space and surrounds. A heartfelt recommendation to visit this tremendous place, especially for all spirited travellers seeking a touch of luxury within the bounty of nature.

  • "WOW!"....the words you'll undoubtedly utter the moment you enter the jaw-dropping space that encompasses Big Shed House (BSH). Ron & Yvonnne's modern and inspired renovation of a humble wool shed is an absolute oasis among the gum trees. Sparkling clean, fully appointed with every amenity you could ever need and with a feature wood heater that commands attention - you'll be gaping in awe at how beautiful the space is! I went in search of a romantic hideaway to celebrate my partners birthday and BSH was the absolute best choice - don't even bother looking anywhere else. Ron & Yvonne were engaged from the moment I enquired, and were more than happy to offer suggestions, tips and recommendations on the places to eat/drink and activities to get the most out of our short stay in the Huon Valley. I have stayed at many Air BnB properties over the years, but none has been quite so special, nor have I received quite such care and thoughtful insight by a host. Do not hesitate to book at BSH - it truly is a work of art, and an oasis you'll not want to leave. Thank you R&Y for making our first (but certainly not last!) trip to the Huon Valley so memorable.

  • Such a great experience ... Yvonne met us on arrival and had stocked the fridge with farm fresh eggs , butter , local Huon apples , milk and such a well stocked pantry we were very spoilt . The Shed is amazing and filled with everything you need to relax , cook up a beautiful meal in the chef kitchen or relax with a Tassie sparkling in the free standing bath .!! We wish it had of been cold enough to light the fire ( all set for us on arrival with plenty of wood ) Will come Again Thankyou both Kim and paul Smith

  • What a beautiful place to stay in! Felt very private and secluded for only 30 mins out of Hobart city. The home had so many amenities to make out stay comfortable and we can’t wait to show our friends the photos of the place!

    Simona2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Ron & Yvonne’s Big Shed House is thoughtfully and stylishly decorated - the house is in a very convenient location, close to shops and attractions. The hosts were easy to communicate with and thoughtful in what they had left in the house for us - the fridge was full of local Tasmanian condiments and fresh milk which made coffees the first morning delightful. Would absolutely stay again.

  • Big Red Shed is A gorgeous place to place to relax. Beautifully & creatively designed & fitted out. Super comfortable. Location Is easy, with access to interesting local spots. The additional touch of a welcome swallows nest at the front door with two babies, Very sweet. We tried not to disturb them. Hosts easy to communicate with.

    Erica2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Perhaps one of the nicest AirBnB I've ever stayed in. Extremely thoughtfully designed, while still feeling comfortable and approachable. Perfect for a couple to use as a base for the Huon Valley and South Coast.

    Charlie2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best Airbnb experiences ever, there is no way you could be disappointed with this space. The detail and effort that has gone into renovating what I guess was an old shed or barn is so impressive, everything just works. My girlfriend and I stayed for four nights and came away feeling so relaxed. Ron & Yvonne are very gracious hosts - a few nice touches like fresh mangoes for breakfast and some local tips via text message but other than that it felt like we were all alone for four days. Can't recommend enough.

  • Staying at John and Min's cabin was perfect for our family of 3. We really enjoyed the little cabin, especially being able to wander around the farm and explore (perfect for our 4 y/o) daughter. Nice touches in the cabin, especially a pre-made fire that just needed to be lit! Very close to Hobart but you feel right away from it all. Check out the little road-side blue esky at Kaoota for some treats!

  • A cosy little cottage with lots of homely additions, in a great location for exploring the Huon valley. Perfect for couples or small families. Blue Gate Cottage is a quaint one bedroom cottage in a bush/rural setting. This self-contained cottage offers peace and quiet away from suburbia, yet is only 20 minutes from the Hobart CBD and is the ideal base from which to explore the Hobart, Huon, Channel & Bruny Island regions.
Blue Gate Cottage, is a charmingly rustic timber 1 bedroom home on our 5 acre property at the outskirts of Margate. The cottage is fully self contained making it suitable for both short and medium term stays. The kitchen has a fridge and a stove, there is a separate lounge room and in the bathroom there is a shower over a hip bath. The queen sized bed is upstairs, so the cottage best suits couples or singles and is not appropriate for young children. In winter there is a wood heater to keep you warm and cosy. In summer you can sit in the covered sitting area and watch the sunset as you enjoy a nice Tassie wine from one of the wineries in the Huon/Channel area. With trees, wallabies and natural beauty at your doorstep, this beautiful rural setting is the perfect location for some rest and relaxation or to come home to after a day of visiting the many tourist attractions in the Hobart, Channel and Huon areas.
Margate is the ideal base for the Huon and Channel areas. It is a short drive to the Kingston Shopping Centre to restock the essentials and not so essentials. Willie Smiths near Huonville or the Ferry to Bruny Island at Kettering are only a 20 minute drive away.
  • What a wonderful little cottage - it had all of the amenities and creature comforts of "home". Merv gave us excellent advice on local attractions and tasty fare. A lovely little wood fire, full kitchen, and laundry supplies for emergency washing. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud - exactly what you need after a long day of commuting - and toasty warm. We wish we could have stayed here longer. 5/5 ☆☆☆☆☆

  • Merv and Margaret's cottage was amazing! The place feels like a second home to us now. The hospitality was above and beyond, with Merv and Margaret both very personable and easy to get on with. We'd definitely recommend the cottage to our friends and anyone staying in the region. Thanks!

    Ben2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I stayed at Merv’s cottage whilst exploring Tasmania. The space is so so nice. Cosy, clean and unique, we loved the cottage. Merv provided ample amenities, ensuring you have all the kitchen and bathroom essentials you need. Thoughtful touches with the fridge stocked with eggs from their own chickens. Merv is super friendly and communication and check in was seamless. The house is located at the end of Merv and Margaret’s drive so they are nearby if you need, however, we had complete privacy. Would 100% recommend a stay here.

  • One of the best sites I've come across on Airbnb. Very quiet, and near the ferry to Bruny Island which is what we were looking for. In addition, it is close to Hobart and Mount Wellington. As for the house, very quiet and cozy. Everything is clean, the fireplace ready to light, and local products in the fridge that we had available (eggs and milk from your farm). The value is spectacular, I really recommend this house to stay as long as they can.

    Rafael2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second visit to Blue Gate Cottage and by no means my last, everything about the home and area is wonderful, it has all you need and is far enough away to escape the crowds but not too far so you join them if you want to. I love the peace and quiet , enjoy the birds singing and the lovely smell of various trees etc. Just Perfect.

Everything was really clean and the breakfast in the morning is a nice extra service. It is a quiet area with a lot of nature around the house. John and Min are really welcoming and made time for a chat even though they were prepping for a Christmas market the next day. We really recommend staying here.

Whispering Spirit Cosy Cottage and Minature Pony Stud is situated in a peaceful and tranquil environment on a farm with nice gardens and Valley views. Go for walks over the farm, enjoy the wildlife at night, lookout for the shy platypus and watch the foals. We are a 40 minute drive south of Hobart. Places to eat and shop are Franklin and Huonville on the picturesque Huon River. Well suited for longer stays.
Cosy Cottage is a retreat to come home to after a day exploring the beautiful Huon Valley and with a kitchen in there the perfect place to prepare your local bought ingredients and go for walks in the garden and visit the ponies. Just enjoy the peace away from the main roads!
We are situated in a nice quiet valley, from where you can see the valley, mountains and houses and bush and most of the year it is nice and green.
  • Perfect location, very affordable, and the farm is BEAUTIFUL. Come to see what the Huon has to offer.

  • We enjoyed our stay in the retro style cabin, it had everything we needed. The location is lovely and great for families with children, as there are sandpits, swings, toys and all the animals to see. Heidi was hospitable and welcoming, then left us to enjoy the property which was perfect. The complimentary breakfast ingredients were much appreciated and enjoyed. As others have mentioned, internet and phone reception are limited and available in certain spots only, but that could be considered a bonus if you're seeking a true getaway. And yes, we did purchase some extra goodies from the produce shop that were delicious.

    Alicia2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Heidi’s place is a very cosy cottage in a beautiful setting. It has everything you would need and as a bonus there is an excellent stall where Heidi sells lots of produce from the farm and extras like homemade organic bread, cakes, jams and desserts. The animals on the farm are lovely to see and the miniature ponies are delightful. Heidi and Herbert are extremely friendly, generous and helpful.

  • The cottage was the best Airbnb I’ve ever been!!! Without signals and WiFi, we could truly enjoy ourselves and experience the unique countryside lifestyle! Ponies were cute, berries were fresh, and the scene were gorgeous! They’ve prepared food and entertainment (books cds puzzles), so you won’t get bored. But remember to bring cash so that you can purchase farm produce in the stall. It’s a shame that we couldn’t buy more eggs and berries!!!

    Rosie2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely and quiet with tasty supplies from the farm store. Great location close to all the Huon Valley has to offer but far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet.

  • We loved staying here. The view of the Huon Valley was fantastic and we headed south to Cockle Creek from here. It is a working orchard and Heidi’s produce stall, filled with her beautiful cooking, provided us with great food. Our first breakfast was provided. It’s a very comfortable spacious holiday unit. A breath of fresh air! Highly recommended.

Nevana is a near new 3 bedroom 2 bathroom ( one with spa bath ) house with a large living area and a rural outlook off the back Veranda. It is 400m walking distance to the Huonville's main shopping area. Huonville is the major town in the Huon Valley and surrounding areas south of Hobart. It is an ideal place to day trip to Hobart's sites or places like the Tahune Tree Walk, visit Bruny Island, Jet boat the Huon river or visit the beautiful south of Tasmania
Nevana is set back from the road and while only 400 m from the centre of Huonville it is quiet and has rural views just over the back fence.
  • Excellent location and great hospitality from host. Close to Hartz Mountain and Bruny Island

  • Malcolm has been a wonderful host, thoughtful and a fantastic communicator. We stayed for work, but would recommend highly staying for a fantastic base to explore Huonville. Thank you.

Trenance Cottage is a seperate & private well-appointed self contained two bedroom cottage. Trenance is a Cornish word- meaning valley farm. You are welcome to wander around our 15 acre hobby farm. We have chickens, turkey Trevor’, Alpacas’s, sheep, lambs, highland cows, and our very friendly dog (breed - Lagotto) Janet’. Pick seasonal vegetables. Direct access to the spectacular Huon River for fishing (in season) or a swim on a hot summers day. Huonville - 14km Hobart - 34km Airport - 53km
The Cottage is a private & secluded getaway , being approx 50 mtrs away from our main house. From your balcony you may spot us going about our daily farm chores. We are striving to become self sufficient (work in progress)! You’re welcome to visit our root vegetable patch, along with our new raised-bed gardens. For those chilly nights there's a wood fired heater, electric blankets, plus a reversed cycle air con for heating or for cooling on those hot Tassie summer days. Beds- Two extremely comfy king size beds, with luxury sheets. One bed is able to separate into two single beds. Unwind after a days sightseeing in a steaming deep bath, or be at one with nature under the outdoor shower. There's a semi enclosed private deck with outstanding views where you can have a BBQ & watch spectacular sunsets. You have your own washing machine, dryer and washing line. Mobile phone reception isn’t strong, but in the right place you’ll get enough to send text messages. The WiFi works well, but it is satellite NBN, with limited monthly data. No downloading or streaming please.
Beyond our beautiful 15 acre property there are numerous hiking and walking tracks. Restaurants- A local village (10min drive) is Ranelagh. We highly recommend a fabulous little BYO restaurant the Ranalegh General Store. It’s usually open for lunches & dinner. Best to make a booking for dinner as they get quite busy. Willie Smith Apple Shed is another great stop for lunch or an early dinner. They also have live music on Friday nights. Huonville (12min drive the other way), have numerous shops, takeaways, cafes, etc. Load the Huon Valley App. It has great information about sightseeing, attractions, etc. https://apps.apple.com/au/app/huon-valley/id1462704077
  • Beautiful setting, very peaceful. We loved the small touches like eggs fresh from the chickens and home baked bread. The kids loved picking blackberries and wondering through the fields. A delightful place to stay.

  • Amazing place! Ticks every box of what an Airbnb should be. Lots of little homely touches topped with amazing views. Will stay for a week next time we’re in Tassie!

  • An incredible place to stay. From the moment we walked in we felt at home. The place is comfortable and stylish with everything you need. The home grown produce and jams were an added delight. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a huge meal and enjoy on the deck watching the sunset. Our walk to the river accompanied by the friendly sheep was fun and unique. Trenance cottage was completely private and gave the feeling of being the only people in the area. Ali was not far away and was incredibly accommodating to anything we needed. The local area has lots to enjoy including Willie Smiths cider house on Friday night for amazing food and live music and Hartz Mountains NP. Overall, a great stay for our family and we wouldn’t hesitate to come back and unwind again.

  • Highly recommend Ali & Paul’s property in Judbury. Their place is situated on beautiful land with an amazing view filled with an assortment of animals. We enjoyed feeding the cows and sheep and the peace and quiet of the country. Newly renovated with all the amenities you could need, lovely attention to detail. Beautiful kitchen and bathroom with a great bath and shower. Very comfortable king sized bed in the main bedroom. Ali was kind enough to provide us with a port-a-cot for our daughter. Little provided extras such as milk, fresh eggs and homemade bread were appreciated. Everything has been thought of. Wouldn’t hesitate to book again. Loved it!

    Kayla2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Me, my wife and our one year old daughter recently stayed at their house for a week. It was the perfect retreat for our family. The area is beautiful. The house is cosy but fantastic. The magic that Tasmania has to offer is that escape from the rest of the world, and this place was the perfect way to do just that. I can't recommend Alison and Paul's place enough.

    Kieran2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Our six night stay at Trenance Cottage in Judbury in rural Tasmania was simply fantastic. Alison and Paul are wonderful hosts (as visiting Canadians, the hosts with the most from our perspective), and made us feel so at home on their beautiful property. The cottage itself is warm and inviting, with all the amenities, beautiful décor, and is sparkling clean. There are great personal little touches throughout the cottage (and apart from the bathroom in the cottage, there is a fabulous - and private - outdoor shower as well). The view from the property, and the property itself are picturesque - and there's plenty of rural road and nearby areas to walk, hike or picnic if you so desire. Judbury is close enough to Hobart to avail yourself of the sights, the restaurants, MONA and all the other attractions the city has to offer if you so desire, whilst Trenance Cottage provides the opportunity at the same time to stay and experience a beautiful part of rural Australia - relax, hike, walk, and discover the wildlife (wallabies, Tasmanian Devils, wombats, kookaburras and so on). We will certainly be back at Trenance Cottage for another visit in the future.

    Diane2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Trenance Cottage and surrounds are SO beautiful! We loved being there. Ali and Paul were so gracious and quick to respond when we needed anything. I loved that we arrived to some fresh produce and also that we could freely walk around the beautiful property.

    Vali2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for a fantastic stay. The cottage felt so homely and was super relaxing. We loved sitting out on the deck with the view, and exploring the local area - Willie Smith's apple shed was a great recommendation. The homegrown treats, the bed and lovely sheets were super comfy. A very relaxing stay, and we will definitely be back :)

Comfortable cabin on farm in the beautiful lower Huon-Channel area. Studio with a double bed, plus sofa bed available for 3rd person.
Our cabin provides a relaxing haven for 2-3 people in a peaceful coastal and rural location. The cabin is a small building close to the main farmhouse. It consists of three rooms: in the larger room are a double bed, wardrobe, sofa bed - available for bookings of 3, small lounge, and dining table, and, in an alcove, the kitchen. In the smaller rooms are the bathroom and separate toilet. All bedding, linen, crockery and utensils are provided. We have it listed as not suitable for children as we have a large farm dam not far from the house; also there is the possibility of snakes in summer. So we do not want children wandering around the farm unsupervised. If you have one or two children you can make a request for a booking; I need to be satisfied that you will supervise your child/ren properly so there is no danger to them. We provide seasonal fruit from the farm, plus breakfast provisions - tea and coffee (plunger and instant), butter and home-made jam. Due to everyone's different requirements and preferences, we no longer provide milk and bread. There are two excellent local supermarkets and a bakery in Cygnet. Wireless internet is available, though not a great connection. Mobile phone coverage is often poor.
We live on a 70 acre farm in a beautiful coastal area of southern Tasmania. Please note: we are not on Bruny Island; the ferry is about a 20 minute drive away. Day trips around the Huon and Channel areas are great from here; or Hobart and surrounds - but further away is a bit too far. There is a lot of native wildlife, such as pademelons (small wallabies) as well as birds. Shops, cafes, post office and other services are in Cygnet, a lovely small town about 9 km away. The lower Huon-Channel area has a lot to experience, including excellent food, lovely scenery and walks, swimming in summer, art galleries, the works! From the farm, it is lovely to go for a walk down to the bay, and around the shore (at low tide); there are also other spectacular bays and beaches not far away. This is a rural area, with no close neighbours except for some cows. There is a small settlement by the bay, about 600 metres from the farm.
  • Quiet, rural setting with a spacious apartment surrounded by bush, gorgeous views & a handful of alpacas. Easy road access to Huonville & Cygnet or a ferry trip to Bruny Island. Our hosts generous with both information & garden veggies. Could easily have stayed longer to explore the area. Thanks Sharon & Scott for a memorable stay.

  • If you want the authentic side of Tasmania, this is the place for you. Our hosts were remarkably kind, discreet but present if necessary. Sharon has a beautiful vegetable garden which she can share with you. Don't hesitate, she will make you discover it and you will be amazed by what is there. Nothing special, functional, calm and complete for the accommodation. The dialogue before arrival is good, Sharon responds quickly to emails. To do again. Glaziers Bay, TAS, Australia

Shelter Belt is an eco-cabin situated within a fern glade at the base of Mt. Misery. The cabin offers absolute privacy for those who seek it — ideal for couples celebrating a special occasion or or individuals needing a breather.
Shelter Belt is pretty self sufficient. For warmth, there's a wood fire and stockpile of timber underneath the deck. Water is sourced from Calla Creek, hence the rich tannins present in the water in the shower and the outdoor bush bath. Power is supplied by the sun and stored in 2 x 12v lithium batteries. Hot water is supplied by gas tanks. The composting loo will eventually turn your waste into fertiliser too. Frequent guests to Shelter Belt include pademelons, wallabies, quolls, bandicoots and a host of birdlife including lyrebirds, so unfortunately your pets can’t come along.
Besides the sclerophyll forest surrounding Shelter Belt, down the road in Ranelagh there's the Summer Kitchen Bakery who provide amazing coffee and pies (plenty of vegan options too). The Huon River hugs the southern boundary of Ranelagh and provides an ideal place for kayaking, swimming and fishing. Willie Smith's Apple Shed is a short drive out of town, and not much further along is the Longley Hotel. Both are great for meals and drinks.
  • This place is special. Know what you are getting into - off the grid, solar power, minimal opportunities for watching tv or charging your laptops etc, composting toilet. Instead, relax and unwind in this tranquil space with its huge windows, large balcony and outside bathtub that offers amazing views of the surrounding forest and casually munching pademelons that come out at around dusk each day. The cabin is a perfect couple or solo retreat, and very private. The space inside the cabin is stylish and minimal, and the gas kitchen has a good enough set up with everything you might need to cook. We brought in local produce and some wine, and cooked ourselves delicious dinners while absorbing the peace of the forest outside and trying to spot quolls. There's also a radio and cd/tape player. This was a nice surprise for us as we had some tapes with us and were able to play them! Andy gave us some great tips. The eco-reserve property that the cabin is on has various hikes you can do. The Mt Misery hike offers an explore of the low rainforest and a gobsmacking look at the remnants of some huge old growth trees, before a steep ascent up to some amazing views over the surrounding valley and into the south-western Tassie wilderness. Also, the local Summer Kitchen Bakery in Ranelagh (10 min drive away) has excellent pies and fresh bread for your stay! We didn't get the time on this trip, but the cabin is also well located to explore the local area and Huon river. Franklin offers some interesting boat tours down the river. Only other thing I can think of to be aware of is there is a long unpaved drive in to the property, including a steep ascent. We had a tiny rental car,and made it up there fine. That said, do be aware if you are in a tiny car with a heavy load. We had a magic time here and would totally come back. We only spent two nights, but next time we'd come for at least three. Cheers Andy and Pip!

    Melanie2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • This little cabin is in a super stunning, lush little valley with wallabies and pademelons far outnumbering humans. Such a nice, quiet space for a little respite from the city.

  • Only got to spend one night here - regretted not booking at least two! Fire was waiting for us on arrival and the cabin was so cosy. Hope to make it back here soon.

Enjoy the comfort of a spacious room in a country home nestled in the heart of Tasmania's gorgeous Huon Valley. Set on half an acre with views across to the hills, orchards and surrounding mountains. Amenities are shared but the house is very spacious. This is a household with pets, so would not be suitable for anyone with allergies. BOOKING NOTES Instant book currently unavailable as I am settling into a new work schedule. I often accept same-day bookings but rarely accept requests after 6pm.
Beautifully renovated large 1950s home with lovely views across the valley. Near to the town of Ranelagh and Huonville and Willie Smiths Apple Shed. All rooms have heating - including the bathroom. A very quiet location with no light pollution and wonderful starry views at night.
The Huon Valley is a popular tourist destination, renowned for its great food and beautiful scenery - including the Hartz Mountains, Hastings Caves, Cockle Creek and Police Point. There's a range of great festivals including the Folk Festival in Cygnet (January), Taste of the Huon (March), and the Mid-Winter Festival (July). The Tahune airwalk has recently reopened following the 2018-19 bushfires. There's a variety of food and craft markets every weekend and plenty of great cafes and scenic spots.

    Laura2019-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • Julie is so accommodating and the space is unbelievable! The tour exceeded all expectations and being so close to all those animals (especially the highlands) was a unique experience, the small calves were a beautiful touch as well. Would recommend this to anyone who has a love for animals and an appreciation for a beautiful location. 10/10! 👏👏👏

  • Absolutely must stay here if you get the chance - Julie’s farm stay easily surpassed expectations. The accomodation itself was incredibly comfortable, it was beautifully furnished and the view looking out into the paddocks is memorable. We were able to make use of the homes BBQ area to make dinner, and Julie went out of her way to provide us everything we needed. Breakfast included was wonderful too! Make sure you take up Julie’s farm tour as well - getting up close to the beautiful highland cows and the alpacas was a highlight. Julie was a wonderful host who made us feel right at home!!

  • Lesley’s cottage was the perfect place for us to stay after 6 days of camping. After a warm welcome we were able to settle in and relax in the homely cottage Lesley has created. We especially enjoyed sitting outside in the beautiful garden for most of our meals, where we could admire the flowers and listen to the birds.
