This Rustic 2 story cabin has been my fun “fix her up” project for three years now. It has 2 bedrooms and 1 bath upstairs. A Cozy Living room and small bathroom, as well as a full size kitchen down stairs. Enjoy fresh coffee in the morning or a relaxing afternoon on the large front porch.
Entire house, porch and yard
This Beautiful Rustic Cabin is bordered by National Forest Land. It is surrounded by great adventures including hiking, hunting and fishing. The cabin is 21 miles from Reserve where you will find several restaurants, gas stations, the local grocery store and bar.
  • The area in which this cabin is located is just adorable and provides you with the perfect amount of privacy and view. We got a nice suprise and it snowed our first night, the cabin has a full kitchen which made it super easy and a great open back with alot of exploring space.

  • A wonderful place, hosts were vdry helpful and friendly, also gave great tips for local hiking spots!

  • When we drove up through the snowy forest & saw the lovely cabin it was like a scene from a Christmas card. Since it snowed the whole time we were in a winter wonderland. We always used the back door because there was only one step & a great mud room for shucking off snowy boots & coats. The house was cute & comfortable. The wall heater in the living room supplimented by the electric heater we brought down from upstairs, was adequate to keep the peace warm, so we didn't have to use the fire stove in the kitchen. The appliances were excellent, the amenities were very nice. There are some dvd or you could bring your favorites. The furnishings were attractive but not so precious that we were in fear of messing things up whenever we came in. We had the cabin to ourselves but there are two bedrooms & two fold-up beds so you could bring the kids or whatever. The wifi password was on the website, but we didn't think to get it before we left, so no password -no wifi. We had no phone reception which was a pleasant change. There is a landline so we didn't feel cut off. We loved the time there. It is beautiful to behold. We do suggest 4-wheel drive. The highway was bladed daily, but there was still snow. At other times of year there is mud. Also we recommend that you remember this gorgeous mountain wilderness is for real. Keep some emergency supplies in your car & be safe. You know that saying "turn around, don't drown? Here I think it would be "if it looks like a bad idea ... It probably is!" Enjoy this lovely place.

  • This is a great place! It is homey and nice with a fireplace, outdoor BBQ, porch, area for kids to play, laundry, and every little touch that will make your stay comfortable and carefree.

  • Regina’s home was perfect for what we needed for the 5 day stay. Easily slept 4 people while enjoying the views, hot coffee, elk and turkey in the front yard and a fire place to relax to before bed while watching a movie. She was fast to respond and made sure even half way through the stay we did not go without! What an amazing value for such a amazing place. 5 stars is not enough!

    Kodi2019-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • Regina's cabin was exactly what we were looking for. Each morning we had elk right in the front yard and it's within an easy drive to beautiful hiking areas. We really enjoyed taking a break from a bigger city and slowing down here. This cabin had so many personal touches and Regina even left snacks. Tons of firewood on the property for lighting a fire and this cabin even includes a smart TV and wifi for movie nights! We will be back and hopefully get to enjoy snow next time.

    Heather2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • It is a very clean, full of amenities quite place nice get away from city life you'll enjoy your stay.

    Eileen2019-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay. Staying in a cabin during an elk hunt was unheard of by my husband....but his mind has changed, indeed. My daughter and I had an elk hunt in Unit 15, right across the road (my husband guided). Heard elk virtually every night from the front porch. Hunted a few miles away from the cabin and even though we were unsuccessful, we encountered the biggest bull elk we ever saw. Will definitely come back next year, if we draw (fingers crossed).

The Yurt is an extraordinary refuge from the frenzy of the city. Securely set high (7600ft) among mountains, the views stretch out in all directions backing up to the Cibola National Forest. Elk, deer, coyotes, and many birds share their land with us. The night sky is breathtaking. The yurt is off-the-grid, lit by soft oil lamps after sunset. We welcome all who travel here, eager to share the gifts of this wild place with warm hospitality.
While there is no running water at the yurt, when we are on the property, guests are welcome to use the shower, laundry and wifi at our home 2/10ths of a mile up the road. In cold weather a small Morso wood stove keeps it cozy. Wood is provided! The site is pet-friendly but unfenced. After dark respect the wildlife and keep your animals inside.
The view is incredible with mountains 40 or more miles away across the Plains. The clean concrete deck 2/3 of the way around the yurt invites outdoor eating and presence. The yurt is at the high altitude end of the Wildwood subdivision. the entrance of which is 5.8 miles South of beautiful downtown Datil. Datil offers a gas station, a small convenience store, a post office and a restaurant. The yurt is about nine miles from the center of Datil. Wildwood subdivision contains 10-12 acre lots with a few people and lots of wilderness. The elk and deer outnumber the people by far! Cell reception is spotty but at the yurt Verizon sometimes supports FaceTime. The packed dirt road around the subdivision is very passable most of the year.
  • Eric and Carolyn are amazing host! They went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. They respond quickly, provide a lot fo information about local hikes, and are super friendly and willing to answer all our questions. The Yurt, has everything you need to have a quiet and peaceful stay away from the city. I would highly recommend Carolyn and Eric Yurt!

    William2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely awe inspiring location with a beautiful off the grid yurt chock full of thoughtful touches. Carolyn is an amazing host. She met us with open arms and was available to us for anything we needed. She made us an incredible breakfast the next morning and we chatted for a while like old friends. I can not recommend this place highly enough.

    Joel2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Carolyn and Eric are amazing hosts. I am so grateful to have met them and shared breakfast. They went above and beyond from the second we booked to make sure our stay was peaceful and easy. I cannot say enough good things about our stay in the Yurt. The views were beautiful and the night sky was breathtaking. The yurt was warm, cozy, and peaceful. They really have thought of everything possible to make your stay carefree from food in the cabinets to bowls out for my fur baby. So sweet. I could spend days here!!!

    Amber2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. Wonderful hosts. The view is beyond description and the Yurt.... too cool. We would definitely go again. We were a bit hesitant about the electricity and plumbing situation but they have it all worked out. My wife was able to charge her computer and get online. We had an awesome dinner of grilled steak in lantern light with music playing on the wireless speaker.

  • What a wonderful place, and the best hosts we’ve ever had - friendly, welcoming, helpful, sweet people. Beautiful setting, cozy yurt, thoughtful touches. We hope to come back and stay longer so we can explore the area more.

  • This stay was absolutely amazing! I spent NYE here, and had such a great night. Carolyn was the most hospitable host I have ever had. She was so great with communication. The yurt is charming and so cozy. Carolyn even had stocking filled for my dogs and I! I felt so welcome and it was a great way to start the New Year! She even made breakfast, and we had a cheers to the new year with mimosas! Cant wait to return to enjoy another season in the yurt!

    Montana2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in the yurt and our time with Carolyn and Eric were more than we could’ve ever asked for! They are such warm people. We arrived just in time for snow, and we very much enjoyed hiking in the area and the truly breathtaking scenery. We were also fortunate to be treated to TWO wonderfully delicious breakfasts. We can’t wait to visit again someday!

This Cabin is totally off grid - Solar. It has its own driveway. Kitchen, shower. It is QUIET. The cabin is on 7 acres - perfect for pleasant walks and hiking. It has a large fenced dog run. Within an hour of El Morro Monument, The Ice Caves, Zuni Pueblo, Ancient Way Cafe, Pine Hill Market. The night sky is magnificient. Grocery shopping in either Grants or Gallup is recommended. When heat is a nice and/or absolutely necessary - the cabin is heated with a wood burning heater.
The Cabin in the Woods is a place that is QUIET. A perfect disconnect from cell phones and internet. A place that your own voice can find you in the whisper of the wind and the chatter of the leaves. Just enough folks around if you want to be with locals and enough space that you can spend your time with nature and your companions. Wifi and phone available at owners in case of emergency.
Spring is here! A perfect time to come to Cabin in the Woods and refresh your winter worn spirit. Hike, enjoy the unhurried peace and quiet of our Enchanted Ridge. It is a private, quiet and scenic area that affords the opportunity to take walks and explore at your leisure.
  • Stephanie and Craig were immensely helpful, hospitable, and kind throughout the entire duration of my stay. They went above and beyond any Airbnb host I've experienced. This place was perfect for my needs, and is very isolated. I ended up leaving sooner than I anticipated, and they were very accommodating and helpful. Small problems were immediately solved without delay. Craig even let me use his fine wood shop for a day to build a tobacco smoking pipe. He was more than happy to help and supply all the materials. There is some magic in that mountain desert, something I never experienced before. And even though I left after finishing my project, the further away I drove the greater the pull was to return to that hallowed ancient ground, where inspiration streamed like sunlight and wise elk tread the frozen ground. This is without question the best experience I've had with Airbnb by several orders of magnitude. Thanks again to Craig and Stephanie, two wonderful people to whom I wish every happiness.

  • Very peaceful and cozy! Great space to disconnect.

  • A bit hard to find, but worth it! Extremely lovely hosts, beautiful land, all the amenities you need for a cozy visit.

    Beth2019-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cabin and gorgeous area to walk around. There is a huge fenced in area for dogs.

    Matthew2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable, quiet, and a nice place for my dogs. Stephanie was great in getting my fire for the wood stove started the first night. Plenty of hot water and surprisingly an electric coffee maker even on solar and batteries. The propane refrigerator was much quieter than an electric one and kept things cold. The propane cooking stove has starters so no matches needed.

    Karen2019-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great off the grid experience!

    Tim2019-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • I unfortunately did not get to actually stay here due to unforeseen travel issues but Stephanie was so kind, helpful, and accommodating throughout everything. I was not to arrive until very late and she was very nice about the odd hours and said she would make sure the place was warm and ready. Then when my flight was delayed several times she stayed in communication and remained kind and patient the entire time. I ended up having to cancel my plans but she was friendly the entire time and offered advice for the future. If I ever plan to come out there again I'd absolutely want to book with Stephanie! I wish I'd gotten to meet her and stay at the cabin.

    Dominique2019-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Stephanie is a gracious host - she communicated promptly, clearly, and with a warm welcome. Her cabin is remarkable. The cabin is clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully stocked. We enjoyed hot showers and the warmth of a wood fire. The kitchen, complete with supplies, allowed us to cook our meals with ease. The cabin's location is magical. It is ideally situated to visit a number of local attractions. However, Stephanie's property is a destination in itself. We all enjoyed climbing rocks, hiking, encountering wildlife, listening to the rustling leaves and relaxing - all just outside the cabin's door. We highly recommend it!

This is a true log house. Luxury in the wilderness. Nestled in the Gallo Mountains and surrounded by the Gila National Forest. Elevation 8300 ft. with elk herds out the front door, tall pines and plenty of hiking.
Please no pets or children below the age of 10 without prior arrangements.
El Ranchito Inn is out in the country, some neighbors, but do not stay here full time. The highway is right here so not a rough or muddy road. Beautiful views from the porch, and lots of stars on a dark night, great place to watch the full moon come up.
  • Amazing cabin!

  • Natalia is a wonderful host! Her cabin is the best place to stay in the Quemado area. She made my dad and I feel welcome. She has a wealth of knowledge about the area so be sure to ask questions. The beds in the cabin were comfortable and slept great every night. Thanks again Natalia!!

  • Excellent place to stay! Lots of personal touches throughout cabin! No Air condition needed during our stay! Extremely limited cell service, which made it a very nice personal family get away! Fishing near by at Quemado Lake, watched a herd of Elk feeding in valley below cabin! Overall very impressive!

  • If you are looking for a authentic, genuine log cabin home look no further. This is the real deal. The house was obviously constructed and decorated with love and inspiration. There so many artifacts its like living in a Southwestern museum. The Ranchito Inn is so cozy and rich with architecture and cultural furnishings - it is just inspiring. Not mention the beautiful view of the surrounding forest. Bring a book or something you always wanted to work on - you will be inspired. Bravo!

  • This is a great location for visiting the amazing Gila Wilderness. We visited The Catwalk, historic Mogollon, Mineral Springs Creek, Reserve and Glenwood. It's hard to overstate the beauty of the Gila and this cabin is a great jumping off point to all these places. The cabin is immaculately clean and has everything you need for a comfortable stay.

  • Carol and Steve are great hosts. I had a lovely stay at their little cabin. It’s far from the beaten track which is how I like it. The night sky was a sparkling jewel just out the door. The cabin is clean, the bed comfy and the French Press coffee maker is the best I have ever used. There is also a regular coffee maker. If you like eclectic with real folks, you will love this place. Lots of hiking, horse riding, National Forests and attractions like the Very Large Array. And don’t miss a piece of homemade Pie in Pie Town. And the restaurant at the junction in Datil. The Mineral Museum in Socorro and Green Chili Cheeseburger in San Antonio . I’ll be back. Cheers, Frank

Everything you need for a home base from which to explore New Mexico. This place is great for astronomers/star gazers, horse lovers, hikers, or anyone looking for an escape to the great outdoors. Dark skies at night and quiet beauty during the day. We loved it.

Clean, cozy and comfortable for two people, all the ammenities (except air conditioning -- though not needed), and really sweet hosts. We were celebrating our 33rd anniversary and Carol baked us a personalized cake! Yum! Easy driving to most anything near Reserve or anything up and down the picturesque 180 or 12 roadways. Beautiful country. We hope to return soon.

  • We had a great stay at John and Carolyn's place. The bunkhouse is extremely spacious and well-appointed; four people could easily stay here comfortably. The kitchen is large and has most of the appliances you might need, and the wifi works well. The best part of our stay was meeting all of the animals on the property, including many great dogs (and puppies), alpacas, and even a rooster. The dogs in particular are very friendly! There is a lot of outdoor space, and beautiful views. We wish we had had more time in the area to do some hiking/exploration. John and Carolyn were extremely friendly and great hosts. They were very communicative and warned us about inclement weather on the day of our arrival, which fortunately turned out to not be too bad. Overall our experience was great and we would highly recommend the bunkhouse to anyone traveling in New Mexico.

    Colin2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much John and Carolyn for such a wonderful stay! We loved meeting your family of felines and canines and whatever genre the alpacas fall into, lol! The bunkhouse has an awesome layout and such thoughtful touches like toys for the littles, books, videos and DVDs, full kitchen with all necessary equipment, and a huge comfy bed. We even managed to get all our Christmas shopping out of the way in your cute shop! We can’t wait to come back!

Our home is located right next to the Gila National forest in New Mexico and 45 minutes from the Arizona border. We are completely off the grid; however, solar powers our gourmet kitchen, appliances and television providing modern convenience for such a rustic atmosphere.
Located one mile from the Gila National Forest in New Mexico our beautiful vacation home is perfect for a get away from it all vacation. This is a perfect place to unplug. Whether you are a star gazer, hunter, horseman or hiker we offer unparalleled beauty and adventure. Located at 7,300 feet elevation come breath the fresh air and see the milky way at night. Nature is all around with Elk, Antelope, and Deer just to name a few. We are in New Mexico's Unit 15 hunting area. A very sought after area for hunting. We can accomodate horses as we have corrals on the property and endless riding trails in the area. Nature lovers will love to hike through the Gila to witness the wildlife and natural beauty. This area was populated by many different Indian tribes throughout history. Artifacts abound just a short distance away, as well as Anastazi rock dwellings and petroglyphs. The interior of our home has been custom built and designed by us to include all wood and custom tile work throughout both floors. We are completely off the grid; however, gourmet kitchen, appliances and television powered by solar provide modern convenience for such a rustic atmosphere. You will find the contrast to be perfect. Please note: we DO NOT HAVE WIFI! Perfect way to relax and unplug. However Verizon customers usually have all service of phone and data. Sprint has just phone service. Our home we call the “Treehouse" has three bedrooms with one King in the master, one double and bunkbed in the second bedroom. Two couches in the living room and a love seat (a child could sleep) The downstairs bedroom has a bunkbed and a single bed. There are 1.5 baths.
Perfect for star gazers and to just unplug and discover nature! We have a few neighbors and a tenant in another house on property.
  • The Hamm's Hideaway cabin is excellent and a great location if you're seeking the outdoors. The family is wonderful to work with, they are extremely helpful, and they care that everything is perfect. They even checked in after we arrived to make sure everything was good. The TV with ESPN is also an added value! I would highly recommend this cabin and we will certainly return.

  • Nina and her parents were all fantastic to interact and communicate with relating to our stay. They were considerate and conscientious about our trek to their property as there was a blizzard warning for the entire state of NM the day we arrived. The property creates a space for solitude within gorgeous, untouched nature. The Native American floor mural was exquisite and one of my favorite features of the cabin itself. I also loved the Mexican Saltillo tile in the bathroom.

  • We had a wonderful stay, it is a unique and beautiful home in an exquisite location. Joel was a great onsite host and Nina was very responsive to all my questions. We hope to be able to return for a longer stay.

  • The house is absolutely perfect for a hunting trip in the Gila National Forest. It was only about a mile away from the forest. After a long hike and hunt it was nice to go take a hot shower and eat a meal in a completely furnished kitchen. My family of 8 stayed during Thanksgiving and our MiMi stayed and cooked for us while we hunted. She had everything she needed to make the perfect meal. On our arrival, a fire was already burning in the wood stove for us. The beds were comfortable and we had plenty of room to sleep. Our 2 boys had lots of room to roam and explore outside and enjoyed the playstation at night. The views were great, not a lot of neighbors to see, which we prefer. The road was smooth and well kept to the house. If we were to ever move to New Mexico, we would set up a house exactly like this one. It's very self sufficient, off the grid, comfortable, and beautiful. Thank you for letting us stay. The Grays

  • What an amazing place! The night sky alone makes staying in Nina's place worth the journey and I'm being serious. The place is 10 miles from Highway 60 on a graded, dirt road which any car should be able to tackle. We saw a herd of curious deer on our way to Nina's place. Since the closest grocery store is a 30-40 minute drive, bring your own food since you are quite a ways from any restaurant/food joint. The place itself is spotless and beautiful. The three bedrooms are extremely comfortable, and views from the open living/dining/kitchen area are gorgeous. At night, you will see more stars than you have ever in your life, specially if you live in a large urban area like I do. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to prepare a meal. Do note that internet is not available so it is a great place to unplug. All in all, a wonderful experience, and our only regret was that we were there for only one night. We would definitely be coming back. Highly recommended if you want to explore the Gila Forest, visit the Very Large Array, or just want to enjoy the solitude of this beautiful part of New Mexico. Highly recommended.
