Location

Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada

The North shore of Kamloops is very pedestrian friendly because it is flat, and has many places worth exploring on foot, or bicycle.
I especially like the slower, relaxed lifestyle on this side of the river. I love being able to walk to most of the places I want to go, including grocers, a shopping mall, several gyms, a new library, restaurants, coffee shops, spa services, pubs, trails and parks!
There are many hiking, biking and geocaching trails in the hills and in the parks nearby. There are numerous parks, big and small. Nearby you will find the Fun Factor gaming centre, and Chances Bingo and Casino, which often has good live music in it's lounge in the evenings. There is an indoor soccer pitch. We have a well equipped YMCA close by.
Kamloops has many more parks, several 18 hole golf courses, and several dog parks.
Our home is situated a short walk away from two large, beautiful parks - MacArthur Island Park and McDonald Park

At Mac Park, You can walk, run, bike, or rollerblade on paths alongside beautiful gardens and the Thompson river. You can take advantage of the free boot camp exercise stations throughout the park. For Geocachers, there are many many caches to find on and off of the island, and the island is a training ground for different types of caches. It is great to feed the marmots, and sit alongside the river watching the ducks and the geese. There is also a fun disc golf course, a skateboard park, a children's playground, soccer pitches, a baseball stadium, lawn bowling greens, two indoor ice rinks for hockey, figure skating and recreational skating, and a curling club complete with a viewing lounge. We also have a Junior B hockey team based out of Mac Park - the Kamloops Storm. Mac Island Park does not allow dogs.

Mcdonald Park, which is dog friendly, has community gardens, pickle ball courts, tennis courts, a playground, a water park, and a swimming pool. In the summer, there are Farmers Markets and free music in the park on Friday nights from July 1 through to August 31. There is a nice walking path along the river between McDonald Park and MacArthur Island.

There is another nice dog friendly path along Schubert drive following the North Thompson river on the other side of the mall along which are more parks and school playgrounds. There are nearby hills with world class mountain biking and hiking paths. These activities and many more, are also available at Sunpeaks Resort/ Ski hill, which is approximately 45 minutes up the mountain.

Kamloops has much more to offer a short drive away from the North shore. We have a wonderful professional theatre company, two active amateur companies, a really great symphony orchestra, and two multi-screen theatres. There are often speakers and other special events offered at TRU, our local university, and many concerts and other entertainment on both sides of the bridge. We have access to three indoor public pools, and several outdoor public pools as well as swimming and boating in the river during the summer. Also, we have free music every night in July and August, in Riverside park. We have a world renowned ski hill, and mountain biking courses at Sunpeaks, a short 45 minute drive away. About 30-35 minutes away, is the BC Wildlife Park, which is well worth spending time in any time of year, and especially in December when they have a wonderful light show on display! We have many lovely hiking, biking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing trails in the area for all ability levels and times of year. Many lakes, campsites and resorts can be found in the surrounding area, only a short drive away. If you have an activity you love, chances are you will be able to find it here, or near here!

I am the 5th girl in a family of 5 girls and 3 boys. I taught in the public school system for 35 years, across pretty much all levels, K through 2nd year college. My career passion is teaching children and youth with academic and life challenges. My life's passion is my family. My husband, Neil (retired BC Govt) and I have been married since 1982 and have 3 grown children and 2 grandaughters who live in Australia, and a grandson in Edmonton. We are both avid readers, and love to travel! We also enjoy camping and hiking with our Labradoodle, Wilson, and our Shitzu, Suki. We enjoy meeting new people, which is one reason we decided to join Air BNB.
