Winner of Sunset Magazine's 'Small Space, Big Dreams' contest for best Small House, this private midcentury cottage, built in 2013, is located in tree-lined historic Ladd’s Addition, two blocks from Portland's hottest bar and restaurant row - Division Street. Check out our other listing, the 2 bedroom PDX Urban Barn, https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/15094467 for a two bedroom guest house just a few short blocks away. Please don't book if you have a service animal as our cleaner is highly allergic

The space
Portland Monthly Magazine highlighted the Cottage in their series on cool guest houses as "a great environmentally friendly place to stash yourselves while in Portland." An ideal alternative to a stuffy downtown hotel, this stylish, home-away-from-home, designed with mid-century elements and comfort is located in one of Southeast's hippest neighborhood, close to downtown, public transportation and an acclaimed and flourishing restaurant row.

This hip, immaculate cottage, privately located at the back end of owner's organic garden, is full of amenities such as radiant heat floors, skylights in every room, cable TV, wifi, a ceiling fan, AC, full kitchen with a gas stove, oven and dishwasher.

The bedroom has classic, blonde 1950's Heywood Wakefield furniture. 100% cotton bedding and towels are provided plus shampoo, conditioner and Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap in the sleek shower. Coffee and creamer provided for all guests. We're perfect for one or two or a couple. The full size sofa bed is ideal for one person but be aware that there is a small opening in the wall to the bedroom that makes it not totally private. We are 420 friendly. For those working during their stay, we have super fast wifi.

The Cottage earned an Earth Advantage Green Building Platinum Certification for utilizing innovative building practices to reduce dependency on non-renewable energy. A rack for shoes is provided so they may be left outside in summer and just inside in winter.

Guest access
Through the side entrance you land in the back garden then to the private patio at the Cottage's front door. Just outside is your own private fenced patio with bike parking. The patio looks a little different than the photos now with chairs switched out, but it's private and all yours. Nearby is seating and a table that is all yours with a striped awning to protect you from the hot sun in summer and raindrops the rest of the time.

Other things to note
The Cottage Manual can be sent to you so you can learn the lay of the land or consider reservations at some recommended restaurants. We have an Accessory Short Term Rental permit, required by the City. Permit #(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)-HO

Ladd's Addition has a 'Walk Score' of 92 - perfect for strolling around the rose gardens or using the nearby bike route to get around the city. Funky Hawthorne Blvd. is the northern border of Ladd's with culinary-rich Division St. to the south, gaining prominence for its growing and innovative restaurant scene and unique shops. Nearby Clinton St.'s bars and coffee shops as well as restaurants round out why this area lands you in the heart of what makes Portland unique - small, boutique restaurants, an independent movie theater and one-of-a-kind businesses for shopping. We are a block from a children's playground.

I've lived in Portland's Ladd's Addition neighborhood for over 25 years originally hailing from L.A. and living for a few years each in NYC, Maui and the eastern Sierra Mountains. Hospitality is in my DNA, having previously managed vacation rentals in Nicaragua and on Maui. I'm a passionate ceramist, backpacker, fly fisher, cyclist and gardener, growing perennials and organic vegetables. I love to eat and seek out new fine dining opportunities as well as unique food trucks and I'm happy to share them with you. During your stay, I can lay low, offering privacy or be a resource for your intro to Portland's many interesting offerings. For inspiration, these evocative words speak volumes to me. " Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray"......Rumi
