Off the main tourist trail but only 40 minutes from Edinburgh and the Borders, Weston Farm is a hidden gem. Overlooking the Medwyn Valley at the southern edge of the Pentland Hills, it's set within the traditional farmyard with direct access to private gardens and our 900 acres of moor and pasture. Each huge room has antique furnishings and stunning views.

The space
COVID 19 - to ensure safety and follow enhanced cleaning protocols, there is a minimum stay of 7 nights during 2020-21. There will always be a 'buffer' period of at least 24 hours between guests.

The house is perfect for couples seeking a secluded bolthole as well as families looking for plenty of space and quality time (with decent WiFi). It's on two levels, with a total area of around 150 sq metres. It includes private entrance porch, two large bedrooms, sitting room with woodburner, dining room/study/hall, fully equipped kitchen with full range of appliances, bathroom with thermostatic 'watering can' high pressure shower, separate downstairs WC and large garden. There is thermostatically controlled oil central heating, constant hot water and WiFi throughout.

We are fully insured, our electricity and boiler is inspected and tested regularly and the house is fitted with the latest smoke, heat and carbon monoxide detectors.

The beds are fabulously comfortable with excellent pocket sprung mattresses, high quality linens and big fluffy towels, a choice of pillows and electric blankets. One bedroom has a king size sleigh bed and the other has two extra long single beds which can also be made up as a superking. The second bedroom also has a sofa bed.

The sitting room has a wood burning stove, comfy couches, loads of books and 43" smartTV with streaming services (Netflix, Now, Spotify etc). There is also a good quality hi fi with a wide selection of CDs. There is a large library of books.

The kitchen was newly installed in 2018 and is equipped with an electronic oven and induction hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave, toaster, kettle etc and there are plenty of high quality cooking pots, knives and utensils, tableware, cutlery and glassware. There is also a small library of cookery books.

Detailed farm walks with maps are available on our app.

MONTHLY STAYS: utilities (heating oil, electricity) are not included in the discounted monthly price during the winter months. A small additional charge of £30 per week will be made, payable during the stay.

Guest access
The house is a traditional Scottish longhouse. Guests have exclusive use of one half of it, with your own private entrance porches at the front and the back, leading to the farm yard at one side and the large garden at the other (both with outdoor seating).

The hosts live in the other end of the house, also with its own private entrance. We are available for help and advice almost 24/7.

Other things to note
The house is very old so please expect creaks and cracks, the odd draught if the wind is blowing hard (despite new double glazed sash and case windows), wonky floors etc.

To make your arrival easier, the kitchen comes complete with basic household supplies including toilet rolls, kitchen roll, oil, salt, tea, coffee, washing powder etc

Also, there are farm machines and farm animals and guests should take reasonable care when walking around the place. The drive into the yard has a few potholes and if it's wet it will be muddy. Please don't wash your car before you come and bring wellies if you have them. If not, we do have spares and will be happy to lend you some.

Off the tourist trail but only 40 mins from Edinburgh, Weston Farm is an organic working livestock farm set in 900 acres of moor and pasture at the southernmost tip of the Pentland Hills near Dunsyre. 40 minutes from Edinburgh, the Clyde Valley and the Scottish Borders, Weston also provides great walking country with access to many mapped routes.

The farm overlooks the Medwyn Valley, a completely unspoiled and hidden gem free from any modern developments. It is perfectly peaceful and quiet but although well off the beaten track, it is within an hour's drive of a vast range of sights and attractions. Perfect for walkers and cyclists but also for exploring the whole of Central and South Scotland.

The nearest shops are at Carnwath (4 miles) and there is a wide range of independent shops, bars and restaurants in Biggar (6 miles).

I'm a retire academic and live with my husband Carey running an organic livestock farm at Weston Farm, Dunsyre, South Lanarkshire. We have several horses and dogs and welcome equestrian guests as well. As well as relaxing in the farmhouse or the cottage in Biggar, there are an amazing amount of interesting things to see and do in the south of Scotland off the more well trodden tourist trail. The farm and the cottage make great bases for exploring Edinburgh, Glasgow and the countryside surrounding us here. We love welcoming people to the area and we are always happy to help you plan an itinerary.
