Book your "petite pause" at this unique and tranquil getaway. A 24 minute drive from Carcassonne or its airport, you will soon be on the main tree-lined avenue of this pretty village. Our sensitively restored, French village house is infused with the essence of the Minervois region. Settle into a lifestyle full of charm, with local wines, seasonal produce and plenty of history. Swim, relax, walk, cycle, explore amongst herb scented "garrigue" nature. We know you will love this place.

The space
From the old street the house looks deceptively small, but this is a home full of surprises. An elegant ambience with good sized rooms, and plenty of common areas. A place where everyone can find their quiet spot, including a cosy study. French doors open up from the kitchen to a romantic terrace, for breakfasts or evening drinks. From here you pass under a stone arch into a private mediterranean style garden with outside dining, herb garden and BBQ area under the shade of 3 large Cedar trees. Then through pretty wrought iron (safety) gates you will find the pool area set in yet another charming garden, with sun loungers and large corner sofa. Unique drystone walls define the 3 areas where you will spend your outside time. You are never far from a beautiful view, birdsong and depending on the season, the sound of the babbling river. NB! This property is NOT suited for children between the ages of 1 to 6. There are safety issues due to the river front drop and window heights.
The property is very private, quiet and full of peaceful charm. Ideal for a family with children above the age of 6, or several friends in search of an effervescent break.
We will consider well-behaved small dogs.

Guest access
You will have all of the house, pool and gardens to yourselves.

NOTA BENE: As soon as you arrive and settle, we will come over to meet you and explain how to care for the pool. This is essential information due to the presence of our cedar trees. Please also note details below "Other Details" regarding daily care of the pool and eco-friendly gestures regarding water and electricity use.

Other things to note
Debris falls from our 3 cedar trees along the edge of the property. The price for their wonderful ambience and shade is that the plunge pool needs a little daily maintenance. This entails sifting the debris morning and evening, and ensuring the cover is on at night. We will show you how, to do this upon arrival.

Due to the severe droughts of the last couple of years and the predicted forthcoming droughts, water is becoming scarce, precious and expensive.

Please be responsible and help us keep the plunge pool as free from pollutants as possible, so that the next guests will find the pool inviting, and we wont have to waste water unnecessarily. We will explain and show you clearly how this is easily done upon arrival, please see note in Guest Access.

The pool is chlorinated, so it is perfectly hygienic. We refer also to self-tanning oils or sun oils and creams that are hard to remove effectively. We thank you in advance for this consideration.

Neighborhood highlights

Villeneuve-Minervois is a delightful medieval village in the south of France renowned for its truffles, wine and surrounding vineyards. The village is centrally placed to visit or explore a wide variety of famous points of interest. Carcassonne's world famous La Cite is only 25 minutes drive away. Equally enthralling is The Bastide, main town Carcassonne. The exquisite and historic city of Minerve a 40 minute drive away. With the nearby famous Canal du Midi for quay side lunches, walks or cycling trips around one of its many ports, you will not lack for outdoor activities. Ancient Cathar castles, nearby and further afield can be visited in a morning or alternatively a day trip planned to take in a cluster of them. Other beautiful historic towns such as Pezenas, Beziers, Narbonne, Mirepoix, or Limoux are all worth a visit, each famous for different types of markets; and all within a comfortable day trip outing. The individual markets offer an array of choices, be they artisanal food, flamboyant flowers, antiques, arts and crafts, or ferias. If you're early enough you can book to stay for the last week of August when the now famous international music festival takes place in the grounds of the abbey of our sister village, Caunes-Minervois. If you miss the music festival, there are plenty of other artistic and culinary events that take place in Caunes-Minervois. It is primarily renowned for its red marble which was used in Versailles and other French historic buildings. It is also known for its beautiful Abbey, its quaint French architecture, its artists and writers; and in general having attracted bohemian lives and their prolific creativity. For those who like hiking, biking, horse riding, wild swimming, lake swimming, paddle boarding, sailing, rock climbing or caving, you will be able to do it all directly from the doorstep or no further than a 40 minute drive away. We have 2 large man made lakes within easy reach. Lac Pradelles on the top of the mountain range where temperatures are cooler during heat waves; and Lac Cavayere offering numerous water-based activities. Last but not least, our home is next door to the organisers of the no. 1 wine-tasting tours of this region, and more recently they offer tailored Second hand ("Brocante") market tours! A wine-tasting tour will take in some or several of the finest wine producers of the Languedoc. If you have never experienced a wine tour before, your knowledge of winemaking will be expertly transmitted to you by their multi talented guides. The ease of being transported door to door an added bonus. The Langeudoc Roussillon wines are now easily competing with the traditional wine makers of France, they are worth getting to know. There is so much to do and see that a little forward planning would be a good idea. Whatever you decide, we are certain you will want to be back for more.
