The treehouse is tucked away in the rainforest, less than five minutes from the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. It has two levels, two lanais, even a hot tub up in the trees. The bed has just undergone a rejuvenation and is back to being super comfortable. You can spend hours in the upper canopy, amidst the honeycreepers flitting through lehua flowers, and soak under the stars winking through the leaves or in the volcano mist. #weaccept

"Whimsical" is the way I would describe this treehouse! Old-style redwood hot tub, perched bedroom, and outdoor shower were the best parts of this wonderful space! We stayed two nights, and that seemed like a good amount for us to experience this place! A few tips for those c…

Aloha! So sorry you could find the utensils! For those who might wonder, they are with the dishes in the kitchen. The seating inside the treehouse is meant to be whatever you need it to be, with two soft chairs you can move into whatever positions you want and an ottoman for putting your feet on or to make lounging a bit easier. Being a treehouse, it is smallish, so there is no room for a full size sofa. What we provide is tea and coffee, sugar, hot cocoa, R/O water, cookies, sometimes pumpkin bread. We concur as to Ohelo Cafe, it is ono!

Gail's treehouse was a really cool Airbnb, and Gail was an excellent host. She left pumpkin bread and chocolates for us when we arrived. She was extremely prompt to answer texts when things went wrong. The bed was comfortable with an awesome view, the deck was amazing, and it was…

We were as upset as Sam and his girlfriend that so much went awry during their stay. It was a case of if it could go wrong, it did. There are a few things Sam didn't mention. We changed the water on the hot tub immediately, so they had completely fresh water. Sorry about the greenish tint to the hair. That was something that has never happened to anyone before and hopefully was a one off. The pilot problems were also attended to as they happened. We do our best to take care of anything that does go wrong right away. Sam wanted us to refund almost the entire amount of their stay. We comped them one of the two nights they stayed.

Okay, unique place to stay. There were quirks that weren't mentioned like we couldn't use the shower until the next morning because the pilot light went out in the rain. Also, the toilet is a compost toilet. I wish the bed was bigger and at least queen size, but it was wonderful …

Such an amazing place! We loved and it was the highlight of our trip! Our only warning- I'm 6'1" and 330 pounds and could just barely shimmy into the upstairs- so if you're taller or heavier you may want To be aware. Totally worth the trip to the big island - we loved our time in…

Place was really nice and very clean. Although it is off the grid, it runs on a gas powered generator all day long to charge up the batteries which is a little noisy and stinky from engine fumes (not at the tree house). In this case, it probably should be on the grid as power l…

Response from Mahinui:
Taxes sadly cannot be avoided. The treehouse is an off grid experience purposefully and by necessity. We are a different experience and along with it comes the unexpected. We are here to restore power when it fails, and we regret that was not made more obvious during your stay.

This tree house is simply magical! From the walk through the moon gate up the path to arrive at the tree house steps, we received such a sense of excitement. It nearly doubled when we opened the door to find a luxury apartment in the trees! The hot tub and outdoor shower were ama…
