Escape to this historic architectural gem nestled into the hillside overlooking the Allegheny River Valley. The Lynn Hall property, including the cottage, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and are prime examples of early organic modern architecture. Designed and built in the 1930s by Raymond Viner Hall and his father Walter J. Hall, who was the primary builder of Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic Fallingwater.
The space
The cottage rises outward and seemingly clings to the hillside with a ships-prow window that cantilevers off the living room. Both the interior and esterior are clad with oversized redwood shiplap siding – puctuated by Walter's signature stone work.
The interior features many of the tenants found in Usonian architecture such as ceilings that compress and rise as you transition from the intimate to the common areas. The kitchen retains the original and fully restored cabinetry. A main living area with a central fireplace features dramatic views of the valley and mountains beyond. Escape to the grotto (formally the original quarry from which much of the stone was obtained to build Lynn Hall) for some forest bathing. On a clear night you can enjoy a view of the milky way – after all, this is Dark Sky Country.
