Deep in a valley surrounded by high mountains and a beautiful beach lies the village of Tjørnuvík. This small hidden paradise is a must-see spot on the Faroe Islands. Visitors come from all over to immerse themselves in the world of our legends "The Giant and the Witch". The place is also known as "Surfers Bay" attracting surfers to ride the Atlantic waves, enjoying the power of the cold roaring sea. Tjørnuvík is a perfect hideaway with astonishing nature and local life.

The space
First you enter the hallway and from there into the kitchen/living room area. Kitchen has all the facilities you need to make a lovely meal, either to be enjoyed inside or outside on the patio overlooking the high mountains with plenty of sheep roaming around. BBQ on the patio is also available. In the living room you can relax on the sofa, watch TV or read a book after a busy day full of activities. From the living room you can enter the two bedrooms. One has 2 single beds and mattresses under the beds to pull out onto the floor. The other bedroom has 1 single bed and 1 double bed, also equipt with mattresses under the beds. There's extra sheets, pillow and blankets. From the living room you can also enter the bathroom with all facilities: washing machine, towels, robes, hairdryer etc.

Where you’ll be

Tjørnuvík, Streymoy, Faroe Islands

Cafe Sand - dining by the beach. It has excellent cuisine.

Homebaked waffles - There's a local making coffee and homebaked waffles on some days, either to enjoy outside or inside in his old traditional turf house. He knows many good stories about the village and its definitely worth a visit.

Shopping: In the heart of the village is a small faroese craft shop.

Ocean swimming - take a cold plunge into the Atlantic ocean by the beach. Nothing beats the feeling of cold water, a cozy bathrobe, and some warm beverages. You'll feel ten times more energized afterward.

Hiking: There are several hiking trails in this area.

Tjørnuvík-Saksun: A public hiking path, open all year at no cost. The trek takes 3 hrs and is a moderate hike. It's said to be one of the most beautiful hikes in the Faroes. Remember to bring a camera and an empty memory card.

Tjørnuvík- Mýlingur: Experience the spiky mountain and sheer cliffs. The trek takes 2 hrs and can be difficult.

Tjørnuvík-Stakkurin: Once a year there's a sheep gathering out on the big sea stack Stakkurin. Here you can help out the farmers herd the sheep and get them over to the mainland by a cable car to the village where there is a sheep action and dinner. Tickets for this event has to be reserved and are limited.
