A lovingly renovated, spacious (74m2) flat in a unique historic building. All-new kitchen-studio, bathroom, bedroom, study & balcony. Ideal for distanced work, romantic getaways & family holidays (dishwasher, washer–dryer, oven, 4-hob cooker, H2O filter). Gorgeous balcony onto a quiet, typical courtyard. Super central, yet quiet location (no strip club on the block). 5 min from train station & 15 from airport by car. 24-hour supermarket on block, dozens of restaurants, cafés and bars nearby.

The space
This legendary 1911 building brims with literary history. Once frequented by Vera Kholodnaya, Alexei Tolstoy and Isaac Babel, and featured in Kataev's "Lone White Sail," this is where the Futurist poet Mayakovsky met his Maria, for whom he wrote the "Cloud in Trousers." Just this summer I have restored the 3-room flat, with its 4-meter ceilings and all original mouldings, wooden doors, windows, shutters, and floors, as my writing retreat with a large desk and many reading nooks. The all–new kitchen is fully stocked with cookware and utensils: perfect for extended stays. There is a dishwasher, 4-hob induction cooker, eye-level oven and a reverse-osmosis H2O filter (which spares you carrying gallons of water to the flat). The bathroom is also all-new, with a bidet and a washer-and-dryer. There is also super-fast internet (good for video conferences), air conditioning, a large wardrobe in the bedroom and spaces for stowing away suitcases. There is no TV, but I will happily share my Netflix password. The flat is on the 2nd floor (British 1st) up a broad stairway, so is perfect for children (there is a child toilet seat, toys for beach play, and strollers can be left downstairs) and elderly guests . The balcony faces a charming courtyard and is my favourite place for a slow drink. The wаy to the flat is through a shared corridor where you may run into our neighbour, Anatoli. Please be nice to him!

Guest access
There is free parking on the street. 5 Minutes' walking distance to Odessa's main thoroughfare: Deribasovskaya. Trams and trolleys are a block away and can take you to the sea and beyond in minutes. A taxi will deposit you at the seaside (the central Lanzheron beach) for $2 and 12 minutes.

Other things to note
A proper bomb shelter (with 7 rooms, 3 exists and bunk beds) is in the adjacent building, right around the corner to the left.

Where you’ll be

Odesa, Odes'ka oblast, Ukraine

There is no better place in Odessa: right in the centre, but out of the tourist cauldron, on a quiet, leafy street (no strip club inferno under your windows!). It is also the best neighbourhood in Odessa for food and drink, whether you are after fresh goat cheese, a kettle of mussels, local wine, flat white in a stylish café, a hole-in-the-wall diner, or a cocktail bar, it's all just a block or two away. This is also one of Odessa's most cultured corners, with the conservatoire on the block (with piano concertos in every window), the city's oldest girls' school across the street, and the landmark Cathedral and Lutheran Kirche (where you can hear organ recitals and jazz) steps away. The oldest circus of the Russian Empire – not to miss – is just around the corner too!
