Looking for a more budget-oriented and sociable accommodation? We feel you. Whether you’re on the hunt for cheap accommodation right in the heart of the tourist district, Aveiro, looking to have fun and experience the buzzing street life with other guests, or you’re a university student searching for off-campus rental for the semester, then consider this our super warm invitation.

The space
Our dorm is equipped with modern amenities to make your stay as comfortable as possible. You’ll feel right at home with soon-to-be friends. Bond over coffee or wine, play some acoustic music with our guitar, whichever jam you guys will click on. Just make sure to respect each other’s space and not hog for yourself the common rooms and furniture. There are two living rooms both with a balcony in front, bathrooms are shared, as well, the kitchen is shared and has full amenities.

It’s a 145 square metre space with 5 rooms in total –– 4 bedrooms with 2 bunk beds and a single room with 1 bunk bed. All the rooms sleeps 18 people. It’s an all-gender dorm but we make sure the males and females are in separate rooms (naturally!). To guard the dainty sensibilities of our female guests they can sleep peacefully in Quarto LUA and Venus; while males can bunk in Quarto Mercúrio, Quarto Júpiter and Quarto Marte.

The space is decorated with antique and vintage personal items of my family. The dorm used a lot of pieces from my grandpa Paulo’s old clinic. For example, the glass tabletop you see in the dorm is propped beneath two luggages of my grandfather. Rooms are modern and beds are handcrafted by my stepdad, so they sure are sturdy and very comfortable so you can sleep tight.

The flat is on the first floor which means you’re in for more treat if you like hand picking fruits from the balcony. It’s like a forest in the city (thanks to my grandma for planting them), a pretty unique and homey vibe you’ll not find elsewhere.

Guest access
Things in the dormitory are there for your convenience, but it does not mean that you have the right to destroy or keep them in a sorry and unsanitary state. Make sure to keep the space clean at all times, after every use. Clean up oil from stove, wash your own dishes and flush the toilet! We have someone cleaning once in a while but it’s best to clean after yourselves.

Likewise, you don’t get to keep dorm properties for yourself when your other flatmates might and will need it. Please respect each other and act accordingly as decent human beings. It’ll be your home for a few days or weeks so make full use of the amenities without causing any distressing events (Though, I trust you won’t). There’s a big fridge for everyone but we encourage guests to put name tags on their food so there’s no room for confusion as to who gets to eat it.

Want less of these problems and not the social type (at all)? You can opt for our private room with one bed or twin beds with our other apartment rentals nearby. Check them out here.

If you brought your car, don’t worry! There’s a lot of parking space available free of charge. It’s a first come first serve parking space but there are lots of it so not to worry.

Other things to note
We have two guard dogs owned by Meme. They’re very behave but not as friendly as most would like. But they’ll warm up soon enough. If you stay longer and are nice they eventually do.

We’re nature warriors so we take recycling seriously, there are recycling bags available on the dorm that we regularly take and put away.

Smoking is allowed but only in the balcony. We also allow partying (if all your flatmates agree to it, that is) but up until midnight only. And no sleepovers of friends either.

In case you missed it, towels, change of bed sheets, and washing machine are not part of the amenities and essentials of the dorm. This means you have to bring your own or request for those as pay for service.

Lastly, try to not make a lot of noise whatever the time of day it is. Some of the guests maybe sound asleep or at least trying to get a wink of sleep, so let’s respect that.

Location

Aveiro, Portugal

We are just a 10-minute walk away from downtown (Aveiro City Center). There are cute as well as fancy restaurants surrounding our area and public transport is easy to come by. Also, since it’s near downtown you can hear faint sounds of cars at night but other than that it’s pretty quiet and peaceful.

I’d like to think I’m a pretty cool mom, a passionate designer and entrepreneur . I’m a person exposed to various national colors - I’m half Portuguese and Brazilian, born and raised in Germany, currently living in the Philippines, with my daughter Ana-Sophia and her Canadian dad. (I’m also vegan and an advocate of a cruelty-free life!) I recently came home to renovate our apartment (QUATRO ANAS) and give guests a more traditional Portuguese lifestyle experience. The family lives nearby, in a beautiful farm (You’ll love it!) and it’s customary for us to invite guests to experience Aveiro like a local -- plant/harvest fruits, veggies, make wines, juices, cheese and raise farm animals. All these home-made healthy produce, which we serve. So passionate to make you experience all the things that my charming city has to offer, from the amazing canals, bright-colored “Moliceiros” boats, crystal clear beaches, historical sights to a delicious journey to the Portuguese palate with our fish delicacies and gastronomic regional pastries! We’re so excited to meet you! The family (including the pets and farm animals) is looking forward to your stay. So, see you soon?

During your stay
When you need anything at all, we have someone very close to help you out. Aunt Salome (or Meme) and Daylinda (our property manager) takes care of things around all our rentals, including the dorm. So feel free to call on them since they’re on the same floor - not on the same dorm - with you. I sometimes visit the apartment at least a couple times a week, so you’ll see me then.

Upon arrival, we do have a customary welcome which includes a tour of the apartment, a couple of house rules and other information on the services we offer like home cooked farm to table food, laundry, farm tour and more.
